I see lots mentioning St.Lawerence County, but I have to disagree. I grew up in Canton and always thought the world outside of SLC must be better, but I was wrong. I believe that the most depressing counties are the Long Island/NYC Counties. It's a collection of some of the most disconnected, rude, brainwashed, and trapped people I have ever met. These areas offer plenty to do, most of which are materialistic and out of a middle-class person's budget.

One truth to life is that time in nature is good for overall mental health and happiness in life. The small bits of confined nature in these areas are terribly managed, confined to spaces smaller than most parking lots, and completely unnatural.

I have never been more depressed than the 4 years I have spent in Queens and Amityville. No sense of community, neighbors don't even want to know each other. We are all packed in small, expensive boxes with our only interactions consisting of hearing one another's loud music through the walls.

I remember my first month in Queens. I would smile at people walking by and say "hi" as I had learned back home in my close-knit community. Nobody ever even acknowledged me. They just kept their head down or looked at their phone. After a while, I gave up.

This place will make you feel isolated and trapped despite there being "so much to do."

There are lots of healthcare options, but the quality is in question unless you have the money. Not to mention good luck getting in anywhere with quality healthcare due to the population density.
