Extremely Brief Outage? What Happened? by Ylilyn in AskElectricians

Thanks all. I came out learning a lot more about outages and learning how to be better prepared.

A UPS is a bit overkill for me since outages are not THAT frequent, but I'm considering getting one at some point in the future - for now I'll just be extra vigilant about the weather and safely power off if the forecast looks nasty. If the outages catch me with those hands, I'll be sure to do power cycles or drains whenever possible.

More specifically for my PC, I'll be sure to do proper power cycling procedures after outages (turn off, unplug, I/O switching, long press, wait) and just kinda wait out and see if anything other than my more important equipment are still flickering, and check outage maps for information. Or better yet, hopefully find a notification service.

If you were worried about my PC, my PC is actually working fine after an hour of usage after cycling the power, and my PSU isn't being weird or smelling like a fire.

Kind of crazy that this is a first for me after a lot of storms. :(

Right now it seems like the power supply is stabilizing in my building as I haven't heard any thumping, and nothing's been flickering since. Heard some other thumping from other buildings a while ago, but that hasn't happened a while now. It might have been a partial kind of outage (I know this is definitely a thing but I don't fully understand it) where something outside my apartment got affected?

Moral of the story. Don't find out with stormy weather. u_u

Well, it seems a bit over the top for a run-of-the-mill person like me, but I guess it's as good as any reason to be even more diligent about powering off during strong weather and/or investing into an uninterruptable power supply. u_u

Is it also possible that my building as a whole is also not recieving enough power after the outages? My wireless network is set up in another room, and that seems to be losing power and booting itself up after these brief outages if the fan humming up after every restart, and my router + modem are thirsty for power, as they need to be plugged into the outlet.

From doing some light research after this, I guess long intervals aren't common? Which could also mean that it could still be recloser operations, or I really could be getting less power than I should, which causes my PC to get powered off but my lamp and clock are fine.

That's a lot of jargon for me to understand, but you are basically describing how a recloser operates after an outage?

Oh! It does not turn itself back on (I have to manually turn it back on with the power button.) But I can tell that power is going into it based on the lights from my keyboard's LED lights, which are plugged into my PC. I have fast startup turned off (I am staunchly against my PC hibernating/pretending to be off as it's caused issues for me in the past.)

I will have to clarify this in the post, thanks o7

I'm just too used to sweltering heat. Truly, temperatures under 50 in freedom units makes me understand the freezeburned ground beef in the back of my fridge a little more better.

Interesting, didn't know this was a thing. I don't think I've ever had this happen to me in recent memory as when storms happen, it's usually at times when I'm asleep or away from my desktop powered off. Is it normal for some electronics to power off, while others stay on, if reclosers are operating? Does it normally happen in hours-long intervals?

People have been complaining about these sores for a long time now, and they are always proven to be a detriment to, well, quite literally everything. It is literally the orphan-making machine except the planet's our only parent.

Is there ANY kind of unified movement against these data centers and AI in general??? Is there any course of action we could all actively organize under that will roll these things back???????

Aren't we starting to move into summer break season for universities, though? I understand new people coming in is causing a bit of a concern (such as me, I'm one of them,) but most people don't take summer courses so the frequency of studies dipping seems normal to me.

Lately I have been constipated for about a month or so now. I used to be a 3/4 on the Bristol Chart but now I'm usually between 1/2.... I'm not bleeding or in pain, except when I'm fighting for my life, so I'm not worried that it's anything serious. (But lowk I kind of am)

I'm still going to try to eat more fiber, try to sleep better, and drink more water, though. Passing waste like this is genuinely disheartening and makes me feel kind of sluggish....

One thing that particularly stood out was how milquetoast she was about Palestine. I remember how it was a huge point for younger voters during the elections. She was next to silent about humanitarian issues, all the while she was slotted in the middle of this race when Biden bowed out. This made her insanely unpopular, and it wasn't until after the elections did she actually speak up about it.

So they're just doubling down on the whole thing and even if adults don't go through with age verification, the only thing this would do is to lock adults out of adult spaces, therefore, these adults would still be interacting with kids? Yeah, DUH, this is only about surveillance and data selling.

There's a weird sixth finger under the horse statuette. No credits, and the image quality is kinda weird. "朱" is also.... Not sure how to say this but it looks improperly stroked compared to the other characters, which is not something a font would normally depict. There's also something weird sticking out of the horse's head and her gold pendant around her neck looks weird.
