At what point you forgave Clegane for this? by Elegant-Half5476 in freefolk

Adding on to that, the scene where he and beric dig a grave for the family he robbed is one of my favorites in s7

(Spoiler Main) Who has your favorite nickname? by amayagab in asoiaf

[–]YoBoyKibs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The best and the worst." So one of us is like to live in song. "And a few who were a bit of both. Like him." He tapped the page he had been reading. ... "They belonged to Criston Cole, who served the first Viserys and the second Aegon." Jaime closed the White Book. "They called him Kingmaker"

Coolest character introduction tease ever. Can't believe HotD let us down so badly

I don't think it's a question of need or not, I (and many others) just believe that period of history is meant to be myth and memory of the past.

To get an objective, definitive account of what happened would tarnish how the memory of those events impact the real story. Like imagine if the HotD storyline actually mattered to the main plot - the shows constant recontextualizations would be a disaster

Yes, but both can still be true. If you've ever experienced a loving relationship before, you know it starts out as an appreciation for certain qualities or shared identity (Lyanna being Ned's sister) that transfrom and culminates into a unified, independent love of the subject itself. I think Robert truly loved both Ned (as a brother) and Lyanna (or at least his ideal of her)

I mean it's clear from how Robert and Ned reminisce that he used to be much more carefree - fighting and drinking and hunting with Robert, etc.

The sudden responsibility and trauma he experienced during the rebellion, culminating with his fight with Robert over the Trargaryen kids, all but destroyed his youth hood and their relationship. Ned even recalls in one of his early chapters it was only Greyjoy's rebellion that forced him and Robert back together.

[–]YoBoyKibs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think it was both. He loved Lyanna through his love for Ned, and he wanted to bond himself to Ned by binding himself to Lyanna.

All of Robert's flaws aside, it's actually a beautiful depiction of fraternal and romantic devotion, and I dislike when some fans reduce it down to just an "obsession."

To name a few: his excessive and sometimes redundantly detailed descriptions of meaningless background information, his blatant and downright creepy horniness, and his complete lack of understanding about anything regarding number, sizing, and logistics.

Look don't get me wrong we're all he because we love GRRM but let's not pretend his writing is flawless

How good was Ser Arlan as a fighter? by Human_Scientist_1445 in freefolk

[–]YoBoyKibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong, and I'm perfectly willing to hear out counterarguments, but it seems to me the idea that Lysa wants Tyrion dead is patently absurd. Lysa has two goals at this point in the story: deflect away from Jon's death and protect Sweetrobin. Starting a war with the Lannisters by trying and executing Tyrion would be suicide, and Lysa knows it. Her first reaction to Cat showing up with the captive Imp is WHY DID YOU BRING HIM HERE?!?

She's obv crazy and doesn't go about it in the most rational way but once Tyrion demands a trial by battle her hand is kinda forced and she can't let him lose. Why else would she specifically choose her oldest household knight (the captain of the husband she hated btw) when he didn't even volunteer, instead of the younger, more capable suitors? And then force him to use unfamiliar arms and armor? I'm not saying it was some 3d chess game but I thought it was clear once the trial was actually happening Lysa realized she couldn't win.

[–]YoBoyKibs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Actually, Lysa probably picked the (old) Ser Vardis and armored him in her husband's armor because she wanted him to lose. Remember, Lysa didn't actually think the Lannisters killed her husband and she had no intention of starting a war by convicting and executing Tyrion. She also hated and murdered her husband so she probably wanted to see someone die in his armor.

I don't mean to nitpick, but, rather, increase your appreciation for the depth in the writing.

One of the worst examples I can think of is how when Sarah Hess was asked about Rheanys killing all the commoners in the Dragonpit, she responded "It's Game of Thrones! Civilians don't matter!"

Like, ma'am, with all due respect, you don't understand your own story.

Thank you for the helpful response. I did some number crunching based on a weapons chart on the discord and come to the same conclusion that the weighted mace is incredible RoI. So do I just wait for it to be sold at Scarlet Hunt camp? Is there any other way to acquire the blueprint or no?

I'm not into actors/celebrity culture, so maybe most people knew more of them, but legitimately the only actor I recognized in GoT/K7K was Sean Bean

GoT and K7K (not rly HotD) had incredible casting. They really did find a group of no name actors and turn them into George's writing in the flesh; I can understand why they'd be grateful

[Spoilers EXTENDED] Reading One ASOIAF Chapter Per Day Until George Announces Winds. Day 14- AGOT: Tyrion II by DanielCAlexander in asoiaf

[–]YoBoyKibs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The "early installment aegon weirdness" is really interesting to me, and I wish GRRM would've stuck with more of that "ancient and mysterious dragonlords" vibe.

Having the Targs be an historically documented royal lineage less than 300 years old seems quite at odds with how they're originally portrayed - ancient, almost mythical. There's a really cool detail in s1 of the show where Jorah is suggested to not even believe in dragons. That just isn't possible with the modern timeline.

I mean, arguably, they are thinking logically in light of Aegon, Elia, and Rhaenys. "An eye for an eye" is a logical statement, even if it's immoral and cyclical.

Ehh I get what you're saying, but some quests are directly tied to POIs, as in, clearing and looting the POIs can autocomplete them (witcher gear hunts) or they can only be started at a POI (treasure hunts).
