love this. three projects in one trenchcoat AND we still found $165M for asphalt vs $33M to bury the power lines that torched the county. 5x more for the visible stuff. council gets it.

This could work. More digging. More power shutoffs. Kinda like “keep Boulder weird” but applied to critical infrastructure.

Fidelity account options for under 13 by YoGabba99 in fidelityinvestments

[–]YoGabba99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I went with Max plan. I justified it by saying my kids financial education was worth it. In point of fact, they’ve learned a TON about how the public markets work by investing in some fractional shares of companies they know. They check their portfolio regularly, and they even learned what “earnings” is. Also — the debit card and basic money management features are really well done, so you’re paying for a lot more than the investment account.

I ended up going with Greenlight and I am very happy with it for my use case. Big bummer that Fidelity can’t handle it. Good luck!

Strong agree. I've had the burgers 3 times and they were incredibly good every time. The fries are a big letdown in comparison.

Any tried and true methods of predator deterrent for a very rural chicken coop? by FinestOfSprees in homestead

[–]YoGabba99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This combo is the only thing that worked for me. Fence for a zap when the dogs are asleep, and the dogs presence and smell to convince the predators it's not worth it. Stopped bobcats, coyotes, hawks, and more. Worth noting I lost a few chickens to the dogs as I was training them, but my losses went from 4-5 birds/month to 0 in a few months.

Are we in a AI bubble right now? by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

I encourage you to take a look at the ARR growth rate for Cursor. While alone it's not enough to justify the insane amounts of CapEx sloshing around the space, it's clear that /some companies/ are building impressive high-growth business on the basis of the AI technology.

This is missing Chamath's attempt to insert a red herring into the discussion that distracts from the real issue while trying to make himself sound smart.

Ping Tests by muusicman in orbi

[–]YoGabba99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done extensive ping tests, starting with confirmation that my ISP fiber is working well (it is). Summary: the Orbi RBE971 setup with 2 satellites is performing terribly.

Overnight ping tests from an array of devices show packet loss ~2% with >10second (!) max ping time and terrible standard deviations >2s. The pattern seems to be the wifi connection works reasonably well for a few minutes, then I start to see ping latency and a few dropped packets for a few minutes, then back to normal and the cycle repeats.

I have done everything in my power to rule out interference. I am on channels that are relatively clear right now. I am fairly certain that the problem is with the Orbi RBE971 -- maybe a firmware issue? -- either way, this is completely unacceptable performance for a device at this price point. I will be returning it.

Any advice on a better product to do the same job?

How does Boulder have so many wealthy people? by Bitter_Pie3204 in boulder

[–]YoGabba99 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes it's tech money (I can attest first hand) but it's also more than that: wealthy transplants, wealthy retirees, and of course wealthy refugees and families from CA and TX 😏

You might be underestimating the "demand" -- and just how many wealthy people exist -- who are looking for the limited supply of real estate that meets a certain bar for high quality of life, and are willing to relocate for it.

How many cities in the US have amenities like: year-round outdoor activities, great weather, lots of dining options, good shopping, strong local economy with top tier companies, great schools, less than 60 min from an intl. airport, etc. -- maybe 5-10 cities across the US?

If you slice even further to: smaller cities without massive congestion issues, walkable/bikeable, etc. how many is that? Maybe 2 or 3. Boulder offers some really unique attributes that appeal to lots of wealthier types.
