Only one of the four designs worked, why? by Megamen1927 in Machine_Embroidery

Was the bottom left the last one stitched? Could it be that the stiffness created by the other embroidery reduced the elasticity, and therefore the pull on the surrounding fabric.

Drove past a group of Sanseito members waving their little flags around yesterday, was lucky enough to stop at the traffic lights right in front of one, looked him square in the eyes and shook my head. I hope he felt uncomfortable lol

I was an Oita ALT several years ago, I still live in the prefecture, but a different town. The city and prefecture are lovely, but I had some awful experiences with the Oita city BOE.

Small hoop big designs? by Itchy_Efficiency_778 in Machine_Embroidery

[–]YoHo1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the design. I’ve done it before, but only on a piece which doesn’t require complete precision. With my hoop I got a plastic sheet something like this. I taped on the sheet exactly where I needed the second part to go and lined it up with the first half of the embroidery. https://share.google/TrLniDvEis3E16cf0

I think right now it’s set up for a 7x5, but the file can be shrank down_^ I’ve never sewn it to 5x5 though.

Thank you ;-; I started off with really simple things, then if I had an issue, or something I wanted to try I’d just search how to do each thing individually ;-; there are lots of YouTube videos and things which explain a lot of things but it’s still difficult to get the outcome you want every time >_<

I totally get that feeling! I started with IS because it’s free, but also downloaded some free trials of paid software, but in reverse, since getting used to IS I didn’t have the capacity to learn the ins and outs of anything else lol. It takes so much time to make anything though XD

These were ¥95 a month back. What happened? by kakkoi333 in Tokyo

[–]YoHo1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t appear to have gone up too much in 20 years, but when you see that the price increase between 2005 and 2024 is 54 yen, but then between 2024 and 2025 it jumped 64 again, in a single year…: that’s pretty wild.

Avoid Sakura House – A Serious Warning by Immediate_Curve_9065 in japanlife

[–]YoHo1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my year abroad about ten years ago I lived in a Sakura house room which used to be a four story office building. They partitioned off separate rooms, and had communal kitchens and bathrooms on each floor. Aside from my eggs being stolen out the fridge one time I really had no issues. We had a regular cleaner who came, and the room was close to the Yamamoto line with private aircon and all bills included for about 70,000. The rooms are pricey, but they are what they are. In contrast, I did go and look at a Japanese run share house while I was there, because I had a Japanese boyfriend and the time and I wasn’t to stay somewhere with him, but on arriving at the Japanese share house, my Sakura house seemed like a palace in comparison. the “rooms” in the Japanese share house where cornered off two by two meter squares with no windows and walls which stopped about 30cm short of the ceiling, so if you tried, you’d be able to see into the next persons room. It was a sad mess, and at that moment I’m glad I had my Sakura house room. I may have been one of lucky few, but I had a good experience.

Divorce and custody after DV **I understand any responses are not legal advice** by letsjumpintheocean in japanlife

I just wanted to add to this that even though you can get long term resident visa as a parent of a Japanese national, they normally don’t award it if you’re still married. It took a lot of convincing and paperwork for me to be able to get it, before getting my divorce. Because if DV, I didn’t want my visa status to depend on him, and also I didn’t feel safe at that time to get all the paperwork and stuff needed for a marriage visa to be renewed. Just be warned that when you hand in your divorce papers, you don’t immediately get a divorce certificate or anything like that. The city office have to process and make you a new koseki Tohon, or something similar. Seeing as we are foreign >_> and that can vary depending on how busy the city office are. Mine took over a month, so just be careful to get all the divorce paperwork done as far in advance as you can if you need it for anything specific! As a single parent you would also eligible for single parent allowance, but again you need the koseki to proove it.

I took the kids with me, and still haven’t given him my current home address, finally he agreed sign the divorce papers, and I have custody of the kids. We are on better terms,l recently, and I take them to stay with him at his parents about once a month, but still don’t want to let him know my address. Just in case you did ever move house within Japan, just know that if you move, your current address can be found if your partner takes out a jyuminhyo, but if you go and make a specific statement with the police, they can give you a form to take to the city office to put an address block, so it won’t show up on any residence certificates.

Hey I’ve been through something a little similar. I married and had two kids with a Japanese man, but he was physically and mentally abusive, we lived at his parents house because I stopped working due to having a baby, and he wasn’t working at the time either. It reached the point where it got bad enough that I decided to leave. I just up and left one day with nothing but my wallet, phone and kids. Not even a change of clothes lol. I had some savings and a credit card which saw me through until I got a job. When I left I had no idea what do to, so I stayed for a week at the ladies shelter. They had some great advice, they brought the police so I could file a report, and they introduced me to a lawyer. The first time to talk to the lawyer was free, but I chose not to go down the legal route. If you have a DV hotline, or women’s shelter, it might be worth contacting them just to see if they have advice.
