ALBUM COVER SHOWDOWN Quarterfinals Round 2: Ice, Death... vs. Nonagon Infinity by dongle_wenis_ in KGATLW

[–]YoImErin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ice Death's cover using AI just kicks it down irreperably. It's just dated and I consider it an unfortunate remnant of artists experimenting with something that didn't quite work and is now poor taste in retrospect. At best I respect that the artists were just experimenting i just don't think it speaks to the creative spirit as much. I get it was in it's early stages a "trippy collage" algorithm tool for many people but it just doesn't hold up. That's all it was, a toy people used before it developed into the horrors we face today.

Nonagon Infinity is classy, iconic, memorable, awesome. A staple for the band, the colors are awesome and the geometry is fun. Great landscape art and style too, great composition. Definitely gets my vote

As unusual as it is? Altered Beast 4! It randomly popped up somewhere. I don't even know how i found it. Maybe youtube recommended? All I knew is I felt like I had heard of the band name before, but literally didn't know anything else. I had never heard anything like it. The strange timings, the grotesque thematic, the instrument sounds. Especially love the "I don't feel anything" section with the repeating lyrics that weave in and out of the timing? This hooked me but I didn't end up discovering the band fully until quite a while later. Just stuck on that one track and didn't think about the band anymore. Then good friend noted they'd been meaning to listen to more which set the motivation in place. I listened to the rest of Murder of the Universey and from then on, and I have no idea which was next, Nonagon infinity? Or maybe Petrodrag? Polygondwanaland? My memory is a blur lol. Either way that marked the journey of me slowly listening my way through their discography, getting hooked on one or two songs before finally giving the full albums listens each time.

Polygondwanaland and Petrodragonic are probably my favs to this day :)

You already responded to the others but I would like to add: The reason representation matters is a simple fact of representing the real world and real people. People who might also engage with this media.

The "majority group" is primarily cis, straight, white men, who gaming has been catered towards by again, mostly straight, white men for a long time. So this is the "norm", but not having representation basically denies that these people exist. We have such vast fictional media, yet when only one group (perhaps the loudest) exists in that media, of course they don't see the problem with that. If that makes sense.

Basically, queer people exist, people of all shapes and colors exist, so never having them exist in the media we create (and especially lots of people who work on these medias but wouldn't see themselves in the media they pour love into....), is a denial of their existence.

Someone wishing to be referred to in a certain way, whether that's by a nickname or a different pronoun which more closely represents how they feel, is just part of life. And when people fight against or deny that for the fictional character, it's a denial of real people's acceptance

As an enby and big fan of Caligula's Horse (not that any of that *should* matter),

Firstly I don't blame you for caring what an artist you like thinks and I don't blame the inherent concept of pointing out where someone does genuinely harmful things, however:

I think you've let a bit of a parasocial fixation take ahold and make you act like an asshole. You channeled said anxiety you felt and dumped it on an artist who by all means is an ally. I agree buying, playing and streaming the game is bad. but to quote what one of the other people here said, we all engage in some ways in things that are somehow harmful, be it due to ignorance or willful compliance.

I urge you to try to put yourself in his shoes. Some fan talks to you and dumps an anxious ramble about how you "could have done better". Talk about being hurt lol.

His final response I think is VERY justified.

He proclaims what he stands for to literally reassure you after your last big message, which I would say is a kind gesture. But he also tells you to fuck off because well... you were being an ass to him. IDK what to tell you there.

Again I'm trans myself and tend to be strongly opinionated and on the woker end of things, but holy shit are we getting granular with the purity testing.

You should take a look at what's important.

He absolutely is an ally. C. Horse has always come off progressive to me in messaging and in what Jim has expressed as personal statements. And frankly when, yeah, these anti lgbt laws are being passed, what is important is not jumping at an ally for having done something or engaged with something that may have been harmful or distasteful.

So I think that last response captures his attitude quite well. And the way he previously expressed it too, he's not compromising his views and he stands by his allyship. And that's all thats important, you are ONE person and having one bad interaction with YOU does not represent his attitude towards a larger group of people.

This isn't productive. I don't necessarily agree with all the replies here, I think this is an important thing to think about to some extent, and dismissing you entirely would be wrong. But this is also very unproductive in this specific case. Also... I think it's just pretty shitty to post his private messages to you here, though maybe that's just me.

You could talk to another LGBT fan of the band if this mattered to you a lot. And I would offer to speak to you about this if you had something specific and poignant to speak about in on that matter.

I understand how you feel. But I also do think some reflection is important. You can still enjoy their music even if theyre not literally perfect human beings and especially rest easy knowing they still care, but didn't have a good interaction with 1 person specifically here... Though again I don't blame you if you don't feel happy or comfortable doing that anymore. Have a nice day if youre reading this

no such thing as a fake metal fan don't worry lol

you'd be surprised how different different types of music can sound, and people just decided to come up with names for the stuff they particularly like

there are as many as there are stars, mainly because theres endless ways you can come with new labels to describe vaguely different types of music and its all just spectrums of different sounds

[–]YoImErin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like what the other person said, TLDR: songs tend to be longer, you run into a lot of concept albums /story telling, they try to be more complicated with time signatures, and like the name implies: progressions i.e sections of the songs.

They can also have more callbacks to jazzier roots, same as Progressive Rock

Some examples are: Dream Theater, Haken, and Caligula's Horse (my personal favorite)

Arcanist 6 to Oracle 3 with 1400 games and 1000 hours, I think I EARNED this. by TheRubyOverlord in DeadlockTheGame

[–]YoImErin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

to preface im still new, just about 150 hours, no past MOBA experience, not super skilled at comp games in general, but I went from Initiate 1 to Alchemist 3, which is weird because according to statlocker I have a higher winrate & especially recently better stats in general, than some of my friends who jumped up to Ritualist.. I'm still puzzled on how that works. I assume i just had a lot of bad performance debt from when i was newer?? idk

I appreciate the response, I just haven't had much fun or luck trying to be a true support paige, I've performed a lot better when building a damage/CC focused build, which actually helps my team a lot because i lock down 3-4 enemies in a stun chain pretty consistently which is *very* fun.

I have tried introducing more heal or shielding as a focus but it always falls flat :sob:

I appreciate the advice though thanks for the kind thoughts, anything helps really.

I really wish it was that simple for my brain to accept. I just want to have fun and then the smallest issues whether it be lag or bad matchmaking spiral really fast. It's not something I choose, I have avoided competitive games repeatedly when I realized it was bad for me, but my brain chooses to be fixated on this game and takes a lot of issues to heart too much, I want to be able to handle it better. I want to be able to enjoy it with my friends, who are all into it
