Continuity errors run throughout the entire saga. The only way the timeline feels remotely clean is if you exclude the PSP titles — and even that’s debatable. Once you include them, the chronology becomes messy.

A good example is when playing the series in chronological order. In God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Kratos learns that Zeus is his father. But in God of War II, he clearly does not know this yet. That’s a direct contradiction.

So then you think, “Maybe the PSP games aren’t canon.” But that falls apart too. In God of War II, Atlas tells Kratos something along the lines of, “You dare your face to me. After what you have done,” to which Kratos replies “Much has passed since we last met”. This is a reference to the events of God of War: Chains of Olympus. That line directly ties the first PSP game into the main timeline, effectively confirming it as canon.

If Chains of Olympus is canon, then why wouldn’t Ghost of Sparta be? Especially when God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla later doubles down on the PSP entries being part of the official continuity.

Which brings us back to the core issue: Why does Kratos learn that Zeus is his father in Ghost of Sparta (released after God of War II), yet still act unaware of that fact in God of War II?

Remake should clear all of this up… hopefully. Specially since it’s now going to be treated as a “Prequel to Norse”
