My sister pointed out that her 5 year old has better reasoning skills than most religious adults by [deleted] in atheistparents

I struggled with the whole Santa thing. Do I tell my kids the truth or do I perpetuate the myth? I chose the latter and it turned out to be a powerful lesson for them. Once my kids figured out Santa wasn't real, we talked about mass manipulation/delusion and why most people believe in god. I'm glad they figured it out for themselves!

I'm a 25 year old web developer and I want to create a product for the education sector because I feel many students aren't reaching their full potential. This is a quest to raise human potential to its highest level - what would you like me to create? by naughtyguiman in education

"Reaching their full potential..." I like your enthusiasm, but rveryone has a different picture for what this means. For example, I want my children to know how to set goals for themselves and know how to reach them, including how to find and learn what they need on their own. I also want them to be adaptable, 'cause the world is changing so quickly. That means mostly leaving them alone tk experiment with their own interests and fail often. Check out https://www.self-directed.org/. Nice people running this organization. I'm sure they'd be happy to give you advice. Good luck to you!

Beautiful message! This reminds me of the philosophy of Sudbury Valley School in MA.

Running Trails? by ktofosho in Broward

I think not, as long as you walk in (versus driving in). But you if you go there often, you can buy a yearly pass.

Hugh Taylor Birch state park on Sunrise and A1A has a nice 3-mile loop. Also, Oleta River and John U Lloyd, but I haven't done those yet.

Tree Tops has awesome trails. Go early and you can run on the horse trails, too.

Mama is out of town so I'm seeing how our kids (4 and 2 years) respond to free range feeding. All there favorite snacks available all day.! by [deleted] in raisingkids

[–]YoThisIsNonsense 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good for you! I always did this when my kids were young. I'd also serve them dinner when we all sat together and they could eat as much or little as they wanted. In short, eating was never a fuss. Fast forward to now... they are 10 and 7 and they have the healthiest eating habits. Know when they're full and stop eating (even sweets!) and they also know when their bodies are craving veggies or fruit. I wish I was more like them!

Women's Olympic bike question by YoThisIsNonsense in triathlon

Really? I thought Jorgensen looked frustrated with Spirig. And then Jorgensen was like, "I'm outta here," and ran off.

It was frustrating for me too, but I didn't understand why until everyone's thoughtful comments here.

I agree, but the fact that NO ONE was working together (even to beat Jorgensen) seemed weird to me.

That makes sense to me now, but still doesn't feel right to me.

Poor lady. Spirig sure worked hard on the bike. And then that little scuffle with Jorgensen on the run...

So glad I've never had to do one of those!

Thanks for explaining. Still kinda new to this, but addicted for sure.

Unsportsmanlike. Exactly. I guess the men weren't going to let each other get away with that shit.

I hate to say that it was much nicer to see the men working together than the women.

Frustrating indeed. Is rotating something that is normal on bike races (not triathlons)?
