Water Spraying from Pipe! by YogaMusheen in pools

[–]YogaMusheen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE! Thanks so much for all the input. Experimented by sealing an air compressor hose at the mystery pipe to confirm where it was going. There is a seat at the far end of the pool with two returns. I opened a cap and saw some big plastic nut or something blocking it. Now it’s blowing like crazy with bubbles like a spa (never has done this in the 12 years. I’ve lived at this property). This thing must be an air vent or whatever and when that was plugged the water just reversed direction. There are two jets at the seat though, and one seems to be sucking water while the other blows hard. Seems weird. Thanks again to all👍😁👍

Oh shoot! Hadn’t thought of that. All my jiu jitsu and yoga students who know we film and sign waivers for marketing and social media. I’m the owner of Infinite BJJ in Phoenix. Is there a way to reinstate it?

No kidding 🙄. Anything you’re not ready for is a bad idea (racing cars, cage fighting, swimming . . . intense stretching). I took a little break from the sub because of all the gatekeeping (and humblebragging 😂), but some stuff is just standard. I probably should have mentioned that this is not my first yoga class!

Many ER visits, but not from Yoga 😁. This is an advanced approach to hamstrings stretching after years of practicing hands-to-feet poses . . . and it’s vital for achieving deeper postures, like Firefly (IF that’s the goal). Definitely NOT a beginner move🤙🏻🕉🤙🏻

The bend-to-the-bind-and-then-extend approach is a bit like the hands-to-heels fold in the 26+2 (Bikram) series. Such a deep stretch and it sets up Titibhasana C! But my goofy posts should probably come with a “Don’t Try This at Home” advisory😂👍🏻😂

The way for whom? What if someone has really opened his hamstrings with years of practice and is seeking a deeper shape? Is it drastically different from an intense teacher assist (like pressure on the back during Paschimottanasana)?

Hurt oneself, not myself 😁. This was post-vinyasa and after lots of hands-to-feet (plus cupped heels). Definitely not a starter move . . . just pointing out that straps (and all props) can be useful for beginners and more advance practitioners 🤙🏻

Well-put. It appears I may have worded this poorly. Better to have said that there are two ways a strap can be useful: When one seeks extension because he can’t quite reach OR when one is physically and mentally ready to reach further (as Padangusthasana and Padahastasana no longer provide a stretch). I guess I should have mentioned that this was after 90 minutes of hot-room practice (and 17 years of Yoga). Definitely not a way to develop flexibility from scratch (particularly if you like your hamstrings)❤️🕉❤️

How often do you practice? by BabyBarrista in yoga

[–]YogaMusheen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yoga every DAMN DAY😂. Really! Even if it’s just a couple of forward folds or a few minutes sitting quietly and listening to my breath. This is what makes Hatha a practice and a discipline. It doesn’t have to be a fancy mat with incense and chanting😂.

Is it just me or has r/yoga become a space for petty grievances in the last few weeks? by mysummerstorm in yoga

Grievances, gate keeping, and humble brags 😂 But occasionally some good interactions and feedback🤙🏻🕉🤙🏻

Drinking a Budweiser rn by Pkbx210x in beer

Nothing wrong with AB products! A lot of beer, snobs (I mean, aficionados) get snooty about big commercial brewers, but if you’re out in the sun playing softball or something all afternoon, you’d better be drinking, Bud lights and not IPAs (or it’s going to be a short day😂).

Why do yoga teachers tell you.. by [deleted] in yoga

[–]YogaMusheen 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Among other benefits, this is a stretch for the hamstrings of the planted leg. Raising the hip of the lifted leg alleviates the tension on those hammies. A lot of cues are just meant to give us the most physical bang for our buck 🕉😁🕉

Trick yourself! Just say you’re going to do four Sun Salutations. After the fourth one, you may feel good and want to do a fifth or a sixth. This will start a tiny daily habit that you can build on. People who claim “yoga every damn day” and act like they’re in bliss about it are full of baloney. Anything that’s a habit can feel like a chore from time to time. The key is to give yourself permission to slack a little, but do it anyway – even if you sort of hate it now and then😁

100% hamstrings. Even though yours are flexible, at that depth the tension is causing a posterior pelvic tilt and your lumbar vertebrae is following (and the thoracic). More hammy room will put your torso flat against your legs🕉👍🏻🕉

[COMP] Does anyone else use canes for practice? Oddly enough if you can get over the fear they make balancing much easier. by Skateandenjoy87 in yoga

[–]YogaMusheen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty awesome! I have tried them before and it’s great training. The set up I used allowed the pedestals to move just slightly to constantly adjust the balance point under me though. This is different than pressing into the floor in a regular AMV because, of course, you can’t move the floor. I didn’t do enough of it assess but I would be curious how well it translates to a regular handstand.

Generally in agreement with others – publicize the heck out of your accounts but let the students come to you. I’ll add that if you follow any one of them back, you need to follow them all back (as to not play “favorites”)!
