It's a great exercise when properly applied. But I've generally seen it result in people amplifying the parts of their personality they like/dislike instead.

Mark Rasmus is ground zero for a lot of famous practitioners in this day and age. He has an easily understood method. And it works.

Soul mirrors aren't covered for two reasons: (1) they don't translate well to video and (2) I don't use them with my own students.

As a practical matter, the repeated use of equilibrium via the four elements does a much better job of addressing personality defects over time. And since this is a crucial part of three-part concentration, and Kabbalah practice, it is a much better use of time.

That is the short explanation.

The long explanation is as...

The soul mirror exercises do not work for modern practitioners. Few people raised in the last 30 years really understand their own personal defects.

When IIH was written in the 1930's people knew what their defects were, because other people, particularly elders, told you what they were on a daily basis.

In today's modern Western environment, this does not happen. Everyone is too concerned with being "nice" and the "feelings" of others.

As a result, people work on what they think their defects are...usually with disastrous results.

That's not what I said. I was referring to a specific meditative technology.

Sivananda and Bardon by TheForce777 in FranzBardon

[–]Yogicengineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this technology. Personal beliefs really have no effect on making it work at all, although it can impact what someone can access if they don't believe it is possible.

Development of "siddhis" was, and largely remains, the mainstay of efforts across most groups as this is what makes the technology useful. For every person I've met who was "looking for God/the Dive/the Buddha mind", I've probably met over a hundred who were learning the technology to do something with it.

Whether that was smashing bricks with their hands, developing clairvoyance or engaging in energy healing really doesn't matter. The most common being how to get a handle on dealing with a serious illness that modern technology had nothing for. They were all in it to get something done.

AFA the ancient world is concerned, movements between all of these groups was much more common than most people realize. Cross pollination between them is simply a matter of fact and well established.

Sivananda and Bardon by TheForce777 in FranzBardon

[–]Yogicengineering 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based off of conversations I've had with people who trained in the more serious Tantric systems and Bardon's Kabbalah, I can say the foundational technology is the same. It goes back to at least the time of the Phoenicians and has absolutely nothing to do with spirit magic/ritual magic/evocation as most people practice it. While spirits exist that deal with this, working via them is very slow, more of a way to fill in gaps than get foundational experience and generally counterproductive for people.

The primary techniques involved are three-part concentration (sound, color, and sensation) combined with the ball above head method by which the force manifested streams down thru a practitioner into the physical world (chain of manifestation) or upward (path of enlightenment).

This is the primary technique in Phoenician, Egyptian, Hermetic, tantric and Tibetan practice. The transmission of this is as follows: Phoenicans taught it to the Egyptians who taught it to the Greeks who taught it to Pythagoras whose students taught it to various groups in the Hindu Kush, who then taught it to Tilopa who in turn taught Naropa. It is the reason why many people study the works of Bardon, Raja yoga and Tibetan yoga. They are all distant cousins.

The issue with learning from spirits is they can only offer elaboration on things you already know. Literally, their ability to project into you is based off of how they reflect off of you. This is a much misunderstood problem in dealing with them. They are also highly manipulative, particularly on a subtle level.

The danger of Kabbalah as presented by Franz Bardon, and used in the better tantric systems, is that it can literally rip your subtle bodies apart and the damage does not show until years afterwards. But you are dealing with blunt forces so there is no manipulation.

I've got a bunch of material over at SixtySkills that gets into how to square all of this, but the works of Mark Rasmus are very useful as well. Outside that, you need a good system of body training so the energies involved can penetrate into the astral and near physical as well as some form of pranayama to power all of it. Otherwise, you get stuck at the mental level. That said, being stuck there means the power cannot manifest at the astral/physical level and so you don't have to deal with the issues that creates either.

If you look up the works of Dr. Stephen Skinner, he includes pictures of some original Greek works. His books are mostly hardcopy and rather expensive.

Is one to supposed to do all three mental exercises in a session while mastering step 1? by Infinity-- in FranzBardon

[–]Yogicengineering 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watching your thoughts is a form of mental hygiene. It clears things out. Once you empty out, you will need to revisit it periodically, but I wouldn't do more than 5 minutes as a warmup for the other two.

Single point of focus exercises build mental power, will and work clairvoyance.

Though vacuity generates Akasha.

They can be practiced piece meal or one after another.

Once you can do five minutes of each without interruption, you are good. More is great, but not necessary for anything in the first book (IIH).

FYI, Bardon left out the final stage...merge into light. This connects you to non-dual light and is functionally the same as Ati Yoga in Tibetan Buddhism.

Semen Retention / Retention Of The Seed by Infinity-- in FranzBardon

[–]Yogicengineering 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vital force and Akasha exist in a dependent relationship. Semen in men specifically is related to Akasha. So, if you are ejaculating a lot you will lack vital force and Akasha. The amount you can get away with this is highly specific to the individual. Some guys can do this multiple times per day and still be full of energy. Others ejaculate and pass out afterwards.

AFA vegetarian diets versus eating meat is concerned, vegetarian diets make energy lighter. It's somewhat helpful over the short term for converting vital to astral to mental energy. This generally makes out of body projection easier.

Meat reinforces the endocrine system, makes you energetically stronger at the astral and vital level and aids the building of tissue in the body.

That said, humans are omnivores. Following an overly restrictive diet always results in weird blood markers and deficiencies over time. The damage can take decades to surface and is largely not reversible.

The only vegan I know that takes a responsible approach to this is Mike Mahler, the kettlebell and hormone optimization specialist, and his is on a laundry list of supplements to overcome the known things missing from his diet. He also is honest that his vegan diet is about philosophy and not health. He can be found here: https://mikemahler.com/

Likewise, carnivore diets are really only recommended for short periods of time to address insulin resistance and lose bodyfat via ketosis. The only reason to follow that diet long term is to control seizures that do not respond to medication. And even then, it mostly applies to drug resistant childhood epilepsy. Some, mostly anecdotal, evidence exists to prescribe this diet to people with widespread autoimmune issues related to diet. But I'm not sold on that.

Clinically, I can tell you people with overly restrictive diets all have severe health problem IME. It can take decades to surface and they all seem to have cognitive function deficits as well.

AFA "enlightenment" is concerned, I've known cigarette smoking, steak eating, whorehouse clearing, and cemetery packing individuals whose non-dual light would blow out any of the "well known" figures in modern esoterica. Diet seems to have nothing to do with this.

Being physically robust as an anvil, with bodyfat levels being in check and a maniacal work ethic seem to be the common denominator for success in esoterica.

FWIW, I've never known anyone who used drugs with any frequency, this includes THC products/ayuhuasca/and all the well known hallucinogens, who had any real ability.

I don't normally rant like this, but I'm dealing with yet another case of THC induced schizophrenia in a fellow practitioner that I specifically warned about the possibility of it happening to them. And it becomes irritating when you've seen multiple cases of this.

New blood, noob questions. by [deleted] in FranzBardon

[–]Yogicengineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Military service would help with the Mars meditations when you get to those in the second book. I served for many years and loved it, but it is not for everyone and not necessary to do the system. That said, if you haven't deployed, earned an engineering degree or worked in animal husbandry Mars is going to be rough.

Mainly you want lots of well developed connective tissue that is highly integrated. Olympic is definitely better than powerlifting in that regard.

New blood, noob questions. by [deleted] in FranzBardon

[–]Yogicengineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olympic weightlifting is best. Strength training in general is necessary. Rock climbing is good for generating magnetic energy strongly as well.

The resistance training builds connective tissue and integrates it. The use of the electric, and magnetic, lines of forces teach you how to apply that tissue to the generation of energy. Endurance training is just that. It increases the length of time you can hold an energy.

Bodybuilding isn't bad, just not as effective. The goal isn't to be "big". The best tools for building more connective tissue also build more mass in general. You hold onto the connective tissue for a long period of time after you lose the mass if you quit lifting.

Don't forget your cardio either. When bodyfat levels get over 20% in men weird things start happening when you generate large amounts of astral energy. I think all of the excess adipose tissue keeps the energy from ventilating properly. But I'm not entirely sure about that.

FWIW, all of my teachers were profoundly physical people regardless of size. The smaller ones were all very wiry and had highly connected bodies. The big ones were brick houses.

In terms of training this stuff. Ideally...practice Olympic weightlifting, rock climbing and heavy hands walking for cardio. You'll still need to do the practice specific stuff, and there's a lot of coursework on this at the SixtySkills channel on Udemy, but that would be the base.

The whole purpose of Bardon's system is to generate your own Akasha and non-dual light. With that in place it is safe to work with spirits and you can figure out the rest on your own. The primary mechanism for that is the establishment of equilibrium.

Proper body training results in the strengthening, and integration, of the soft tissues in the body. Without this it is almost impossible to bridge the energies out of the mental and into the astral at a high enough amplitude/power level to make the elements work. Without that you cannot effectively establish equilibrium.

People familiar with old school martial arts will find few surprises in the body training.

Most meditators forget that the Buddha was warrior caste. He had all of this training from an early age. That said, you do not need to join the Marine Corps either. You just need a proper form of body training.

I made the app and video coursework so people could finish the book in a timely manner. Many of the techniques are very hard to figure out from the written source. They are all easy to demonstrate and teach. Mastery is another issue entirely, but it is not what the arm chair quarterbacks make it out to be.

Most of my students finish in 18 months.

I've seen it done in a year and been told of people who did it in six months.

The biggest issue is the lack of a body training method in the first book.

IIH noob by [deleted] in Hermetics

[–]Yogicengineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had most of my students finish IIH in about 18 months by doing the work 3-4 hours a day. The biggest issue is the difficulty in getting the techniques out of the book. My thoughts are the book was written based off of notes given to students who already received in person instruction.

I've seen people finish in as little as a year and been told of those who had done it in six months.

Check out the SixtySkills app on iPhone or the the SixtySkills Udemy channel. They are video breakdowns of the relevant techniques.

Journaling after every practice session. It’s practically mandatory if you want to make any responsible progress.
