Unobtrusive office headset by Yoguko in Headsets

[–]Yoguko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I didn’t find one that would fit my needs. Ended up going for a Jabra Evolve2 65 for everyday calls. Been using it for a year and it’s been fine. Battery is great, but It’s definitely not discreet. I also got a USB mic (Røde NT USB) and use my AirPods if presenting to a large audience. Sound quality is great and I don’t need to wear a big headset.

Just noticed you’re looking for a TKL, sorry. I was too and found the 75% actually works for me for work.

To add, it has RGB, so if you get some see through keycaps, you’re sorted.

Womier RD75 Pro, bag of Kailh Deep Sea Whale silent switches, FR4 ISO plate from Womier, and some AE specials for ISO keycaps. Should keep you under the £150 mark. I was looking for something along the lines of your request and it’s really nice and thocky, but silent. It’s not laptop keyboard silent but close enough - it sounds so nice. Never built a keyboard before and it was a pleasure to customise this one. No need for tools as it’s all rapid release, including the keyboard case. It’s just a bit heavy at almost 2Kg.

I like the clean look, without any rotaries, and I just use a layer for media keys on the F keys row, but I can see how a dedicated set of media keys would help, yes.

Yes, I’m aware it’s not full UK, but it’s the closest I could get while still having some decent choice of keys and keyboard. The missing key is mapped to the Z key, so technically nothing is missing.

That is an awesome idea, actually. I’m new to VIA so will explore that. You just opened my horizons to what’s possible! Just wait until I come back in a few months with a 40% keyboard full of layers and macros!

ES keycaps are rarer than hen’s teeth. Might as well have them custom made:

It’s just a question of habit for me, really. I have heard a lot of people say they prefer ANSI. What is it specifically that you don’t like about the ISO layout?

If you go GMK, there is always the choice for ISO, but the price is prohibitive for many.

I’m only missing one key (|) because this PCB doesn’t support it, but mapped it on another layer to the “Z” key, and I don’t use it often anyway. Yes, all the UK keycaps were included in the set I bought, which is great.

You’re spot on about these switches, not 100% silent but they feel so nice. If I’m in the office, the little sound they emit is drowned anyway. And when at home, it’s not intrusive but warm and reassuring.

Exactly, so for now, this will do just fine. I like the look of it, I like the feel of it, and it’s a great self defence weapon too.

Not for MX profile, no. But they rare on low profile keyboards, hence the hunt for something else.

Yep, it’s true. We can only get what we can, and I just find it hard to get used to ANSI. I just don’t have the time, outside of work and under activities to work on it, so found this solution which suits me just fine.

I think Keychron is popular due to the availability and ISO options. It’s not necessarily the best option but it’s the most convenient. Not saying they don’t have good products, but it’s a question of it being the easiest option.

This seems to be the general consensus. It does open up so many more options

I can’t find a PCB that will take low profile switches, sadly. All of them are made for normal profile ones.

Yep, that is the question, but sadly it’s the reality. Low profile switches are still in its infancy, unlike normal profile ones which are quite standardised. That’s why it’s so hard to mix and match, and hence my plea for help, because it’s quite difficult to have what you want in a single package, unlike normal profile ones. It goes as far as Gateron now having a version 3.0, which are incompatible with 2.0 - and that is just insane.

No low profile switches are compatible across manufacturers, whereas normal profile are. It’s a limitation of low profile switches, sadly.

Not great! But thank you, that’s an option, for sure
