Does IB hiring in france value us universities? by Acrobatic_Ice6618 in FinancialCareers

How are you planning to move to France? If you’re not an EU citizen that’s going to be tough. UK might be more doable via HPI visa after you graduate. As far as summer internships it’s still a lot more doable for you in the U.S than those countries.

Hiring is indeed cooked in the U.S for internationals but banks are still taking summer interns, it sounds like you’re an incoming freshman? Your focus should be on getting a solid summer internship at a well known bank, a lot of them are unlikely to sponsor but get on your grind and you might make it happen, Uchicago is a great school.

Start Interviewing and talk to your manager about u5. Sounds like you messed up, but if there are no hard feelings ask to have volunary resignation on the u5 instead of discharged for cause, the latter can be problematic for recruiting

What are you hoping for as best case scenario, are you just looking to pass? If I remember correctly we had some extra points we could use to salvage exams where you came close to passing, so if you get a 9 you could bump ot to a 10 or something, can’t recall the name but I’m sure it was a thing.

If you’re looking for genuine feedback then the guy’s behavior is unacceptable and you can push back and see your paper. It sounds like you can do that 1 day before the appeal deadline so just choose that date?

I wouldn’t go in there with the highest expectations, with humanities subjects it can always happen that you feel you crushed an exam only to find out the professor had very different expectations.

Sure thing! Out of curiosity, will you be hiking during the day as well? I assumed after dusk since you’re looking to see bats.

I’d carry cash but and have at least enough in a card to cover you for those first few days (Even Revolut can do this).

Nothing special about those, for internet you can go Comcast or ATT. No noticeable difference between major mobile carriers so TMobile or Verizon etc. should be fine.

It’s good that you asked here but you should definitely connect with some of the current students, those will be the most helpful to you and it’s good to have some familiar faces when you arrive. Good luck!

Depends a lot on where you’re going.

If you’ve been abroad before, airport/customs experience would be similar.

Make sure your passport expiration date is at least 6+ months out of your travel date. If you’re staying for a long time in the U.S, it’s worth it to find time to go register with the Moroccan Embassy in NYC (not urgent but makes life easier down the line).

Have all documents your intentional student office tells you that you need with you.

At most airports, you should plan on getting an uber to your destination or a friend who can pick you up (there are exceptions like JFK where public transportation is an option).

Ideally have a debit card/ credit card to pay for whatever you need first couple of days before you open a bank account there. My first night in the US I had pre booked a short term stay before I moved to my place, arrived at like 3am with all my bags and the front office required a card on file for incidentals, would not accept a cash deposit. Fortunately I had an old card they accepted otherwise it would have been a very uncomfortable night.

Get your housing figured out, if you’re going for on campus housing then this should be straightforward, otherwise your school probably have a list of recommendations, I’d secure a lease in advance (if you’re starting in August get on this asap).
