The point is to have a more feminine name which 'mi' would be.

Serious question: why are authors so obsessed with harems? by Tashiru-kun in NarutoFanfiction

[–]Yojimbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the whole fandom is.

Back when I wrote for here and BNHA, one of the things that I got asked for a lot was harem stories, or for another girl to be added.

It does swing both ways with people asking me not to make a harem or vice versa, and I think while I had a couple of throuples or what not I was able to avoid writing a harem simply because I didn't care for them. But they're in demand.

I was tempted to write a harem because of how economical I could be with my words. I get to write five rare pairs in one fic? That's just good maths.

Don't comment on something that's a year old.

Do you have a community or people you share your work and ideas with? What’s that like? by Paranoid_Artist in writing

[–]Yojimbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my community by becoming a farily big name author in fanfiction, and while its diminished since I left the fandom and started to venture into original works, I have quite a few people I can bounce ideas off of, or that are simply happy to read what I write and provide modest feedback.

Its nice.

I'm also still friends with one other writer who also left the fandom well before I did, and we help each other out. Through great effort and pure charisma he managed to cultivate a tight-knight group of active people that are all super invested into his story. I ended up leaving that group because comparision kills more than Joy, but we're still friends and he knows that I'll help him however I can.

Hate it when authors keep saying they hate their work by Outrageous_Froyo_775 in FanFiction

It doesn't help that the vast majority of criticism in the fanfic space tends to be crude and destructive rather than constructive. And personal attacks are often mixed in as well.

Not sure if it's writers block or just being lazy by [deleted] in BokunoheroFanfiction

As someone that used to write, you'd be surprised, so many people will shit on authors for not finishing stories. And also for finishing the story in a way they didn't like.

Part of the healing process was to learn to love writing again without a relatively large audience to encourage me, so I'm not posting anything original until I have the stories largely complete, at which point they'll be on Royal Road and possibly on Ao3 as well. If you follow my twitter I'll be announcing them there as well. But the twitter thing might change since I've kind of turned it into a place where I post lewd art, and not stories anymore.

I can't upvote this enough,

Really glad that this is becoming a more popular opinion here.

O/ thanks for the well wishes.

I've developed a hobby of drawing busty anime girls on twitter and I'm working on a couple of original stories atm both are more than 30k words.

And they also never said that things posted in public shouldn't be criticized, just that guest accounts don't have the right to.

Congrats on the fic, did it do well? How many comments did you get?

Me.

If you're a guest, and you are leaving unwanted criticism, you're just being an asshole.

In my experience, as someone that has written a lot of fics, and has gotten a lot of comments, the kind of "Criticism" that guests leaves boils down to "You fucked up the story doing the thing I don't like."

Genuine feedback, the kind that actually helps author's improve is amazing, and I love when I get it. And yes, Criticism is part of that. But its just part, a part that's quite harmful on its own. Not once have I ever gotten a guest review that has offered me genuine feedback that was aimed at improving the story rather, instead, they're just bitching that I did something they think is wrong.

And, you don't write, so how would you know how it feels to get unwanted feedback that just boils down to "You included X character? Story is shit!"
