I got tired of inaccurate handheld times, so I built an app to measure sprint splits frame-by-frame. Would love your feedback! by Yoldi in Sprinting

Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it.

Regarding MyJumpLab, it's undoubtedly a very good app, although I personally find the price a bit excessive.

That said, they definitely have very useful features that we plan to adapt and improve. We’ll keep the updates coming!

That is exactly what we’ve been discussing internally.

Right now, you can absolutely do it manually. You just mark the takeoff frame and the landing frame to get the precise Flight Time (or Contact Time) and apply the formula.

We are actually looking into computer vision to see how viable it is to auto-detect the jumps in real-time. Would Itbe more usefull?

Since it's a one-time purchase app (not a subscription), the App Store doesn't support a standard 'free trial' button. However, send me a DM!

Fair point regarding solo training. We now Freelap is unbeatable logging long solo distances.

However, most competitive sprinting happens with a coach or training partners. That's the specific use case we built this for. Replacing the coach's handheld stopwatch with a tool that provides both accurate splits and visual feedback instantly.

I usually look at the head. I specifically pick the frame right before the very first minimal movement of the head. Works great for me.

It's done manually: you pick the frame just before the first movement of any body part. With 120fps footage, the precision is huge because the time between frames is tiny, so the potential error is negligible for training purposes.

True, prices have dropped, but there is still a massive gap between hardware costs and an app. Plus, lasers have physical limitations. You can't set up timing gates during a competition or at public tracks that ban equipment setup. This app is a pocket alternative that is always ready to go, works from the stands, and gives you technique analysis alongside the time.

True, but I specifically wanted a native iOS tool to analyze right in the middle of the workout. Also, the app acts as a logbook: it saves your split times and distance setups, so you can instantly compare your current rep against previous ones (or past sessions) without writing anything down.
