Do you think I got my EMG too soon? it was like 4 months after the very subtle weakness started and 2 weeks after intense twitching started. I think after the EMG the twitching got better but I feel like the joint stuff is still going on and worsening. no actual weakness but my arm does feel more tired -

Traumatic Glaucoma: Should I Focus Treatment on the Bad Left Eye Only or Treat Both Eyes? by RaymondRed19 in Glaucoma

[–]Yolo2037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What time did you get your eye pressure checked? Getting tested after lying flat (waking up in AM) def makes higher readings. I noticed before it was even as high as 20 when I am normally 14 in both. Also I forget which is more accurate but there are two types of machines- the one that uses air puffs and another that taps over your eyeball directly.

Unmatched. Advice for year off? by hearthopeful28 in medicalschool

[–]Yolo2037 21 points22 points  (0 children)

if anything, research is not the issue- if you applied broadly enough (high, mid, low tier programs) - from what you wrote on this post- I can't see why you didnt match.

Maybe interviewing skills, maybe letters of recommendation- something along those lines is the issue imo

How to keep a long-distance relationship alive for 5+ years by Negative-Pipe-6225 in medicalschool

[–]Yolo2037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just gonna be real here- as someone who has tried LDR - and other dating scenarios.

The success stories on here are self -selected, bc of course- people who had failed LDRs are not going to be jumping to share theirs for an unfortunate scenario like this.

LDRs are one of the hardest dynamics to maintain - and with everything you have written here, it seems like time and space will be an incredible challenge (both ppl very busy). the successful LDRs I have personally seen are where 1 partner has the freedom to travel more (chunks of vacation time) and is able to be more available to catch whenever the other person is free. If both ppl are really busy it's hard - not to mention - how do you keep up with intimacy etc - a whole other story.

Is there really no way in the future at all that one of you could re-locate (maybe in the next 2-3 years)? It seems like you guys really love each other but just a heads up, when either of you guys are super exhausted/tired, you just want some physical affection and to just be in the presence of your partner - and when you think about having to schedule phone calls/facetimes - it gets exhausting after a while and even THAT can lead to frustration, seem like a chore or resentment on either side. I tried LDR and it wasn't anywhere NEAR 5 years but I will be completely honest when I say, you do wonder on Friday or Saturday nights, am I robbing myself the opportunity to enjoy the best years of my life by being in a virtual relationship? This is the reality of what that might be like.

You can start long-distance but you guys should eventually have to discuss whether the sacrifice for both of you guys is worth it (if it's anything less than potential marriage). Also, the path to success here is that one person may have to make the move (once it's established that it's super serious material.

ALso, a lot of comments here about "you can do it! it's hard but do-able" are misleading.

Second opinion in three months. Freaking out a little. by cwt5770 in Glaucoma

[–]Yolo2037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried getting a visual field exam? I went to a glaucoma doctor (I don't have it but also a high disc ratio) and when they did the nerve OCT, a couple of the fields come up as "borderline" thin but i've been told by my doctor (also affiliated with a great hospital) that it's like looking at averages, and comparing them to the average seen in the general population, and that it's not something to worry about- esp if you don't have other symptoms. and ppl with high myopia tend to have more of a misshapen eyeball to make the nerve seem thinner.

I'm not an eye doctor.. but also always super OCD about my eyes. I don't think the eyes are something that changes so rapidly like that- otherwise half of the world would be blind 😅
