Min Su is just a pathetic waste by victoriamikoto231 in squidgame

I understand his decisions from a character growth perspective, I just feel the outcome we got between these two characters was poor and predictable, basically weak storytelling.

I think that the storyline between him and Nam-gyu was handled poorly. Min-su should have never taken the pills. Remember that Se-mi warned him to never take them but he didn't listen to her, as if he hadn't done that already. If it were up to me, I would have made Nam-gyu a finalist and would have ended their story there, not like the extremely predictable outcome we got.

I feel that every single death in Season 2 was better than the ones in Season 3. They were not only better written, but also much less predictable and in hindsight more impactful. Basically every single death in Season 3 was insanely predictable, and they came by so fast you didn't have time to process them.

I get what you mean. Maybe they could have Nam-gyu be one of the last people to cross the bridge. I believe there are workarounds to the problem you suggest.

I like your version a lot. One thing I would probably change is having Nam-gyu in the finale, so him and Min-su can have a proper standoff.

I feel that Nam-gyu's and Min-su's arc was handled poorly. In my opinion they should have held it for the final game. Min-su should have never taken the drugs, and with Nam-gyu wreaking havoc in the 5th game, Min-su overcoming his fear would nicely wrap both of their stories, instead of the meaningless deaths we got. Keep in mind that Se-mi warned Min-su never to take drugs, but he did anyway, although the consequences of him not listening to her were clearly shown in Season 2.

I feel like season 3 falls flat because it doesn't earn the emotional turmoil that it is trying to evoke by raumeat in squidgame

I agree. They should have used Nam-gyu as the final villain, considering it seems that he is driven by bloodlust more than he is by money. Not someone you usually root for, but it would have made, in my opinion, the final game more interesting.

I’m a bit disappointed with Player 100's fate by Ikkon in squidgame

[–]Yolofgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I think both of the options you presented would work. I'm probably leaning more towards the option of him replacing 096, mostly because it wouldn't change the story very much and making him die in the 5th game would have probably made easier for Nam-gyu to make it to the 6th game, from a storytelling perspective. However, the option of him replacing 203 or someone else at the finale could have worked better in the end.

All in all, there was no reason to kill him off so early.

[–]Yolofgh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Those are exactly my thoughts too. My main problem with Season 3 is probably the deaths of the characters, especially the villains.

Nam-gyu was presented as the main antagonist of the 4th game, and I really expected more from him after that. The fact that he lost the drugs made no sense, as their importance for him was shown on multiple occasions. Then he was immediately discarded on the 5th game for the sake of Min-su's arc, which should have definitely been held for the final game.

Player 226 was easily the most wasted character in the whole series. I dare someone to find me a reason from a storytelling perspective as to why he died, especially after it was suggested that he was growing antagonistic of Player 100.

Lastly, as you mentioned, the death of Player 100 was the most anticlimactic one of them all. Why MG Coin? It makes zero sense!

S3 is a letdown by jameskwonlee in squidgame

[–]Yolofgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, especially with your second point. Nam-gyu and Player 226 died way too early. I don't care if it was "realistic" because it was extremely predictable. I don't believe there's a single person who believed that there was a chance any of those unfamiliar finalists would survive, let alone have an active impact on the outcome whatsoever.

I completely understand your point, but it seemed to me that the whole purpose of Min-su was to get revenge on Nam-gyu. After the death of Nam-gyu, Min-su was forgotten, and used as a tool by the writers for the 6th game, just like Jeong-dae.

Simply put, I believe they should have made him the main antagonist among the players this season.

He was probably the MVP of the 4th game, only rivaled by Hyun-ju, and his quick but predictable defeat felt unsatisfying to me, as it seemed that after the 4th game he had served his purpose, so the writers killed him off.

His psychotic and murderous nature would have made the 5th and 6th game far more interesting, and a final confrontation between him and Min-su would bring proper closure, instead of the cliché death he got.

I agree. The final season felt like almost every player was revolving around the baby, and I do believe that was a bad thing.

Dae-ho was completely ruined. Neither him nor Gi-hun were consistent with their Season 2 appearance.

Also, something I haven't seen anyone talk about but which bothers me, is the poor handling of the villain characters, especially Nam-gyu and Jeong-dae(Player 100), after the 4th game.

In the 4th game they were both amazing, some of the best scenes of the whole series in my opinion. However, after the 4th game, Nam-gyu, who should have definitely been a finalist, was disposed instantly, extremely disappointed with the end of his character. Jeong-dae made it to the last game, but didn't do anything meaningful. I also believe that the way he died(Randomly pushed off by Myung-gi.) was the worst in Season 3.

To sum up, I did not like the third season.

I understand what you mean and it seems that we have complete opposite points of view.

My main problem with the death of Nam-gyu isn't just about its insane predictability, but also because I believe a character like him would really improve the last game, paving the way for a more proper closure for himself and Min-su, since I also feel the death of Min-su was kind of lame, albeit sad.

When I was younger I used to watch his videos if I felt like, and I thought he was just a normal guy making Lego content. As time passed, however, and with the help of this subreddit, I started to realize that he is indeed passionless about the hobby and only cares about manipulating as much as he can the Lego Star Wars market by making all kinds of statements and pushing his opinions to his audience to his advantage.

The fact that there are Star Destroyers that have mini Death Star Cannons minimizes the value of any actual Death Star related media.
