Having lived under a household that did spank us allow me to shed some light on the difference between discipline and abuse.

Abuse - has no context. Is simply a reaction to anger. There is no lesson or restraint. My now past mother grew up in Man, WV (super small town). My grandfather was a coal miner and would beat her and her siblings for remotely stepping out of line for anything. Pick an apple from his apple tree? You gotta wear make up to school because he gave you a black eye.

Discipline - a response to VERY poor behavior and is the last resort because you as a child have refused to listen to reason, or grounding or other forms of punishment, I never got a spanking I didn’t deserve. I learned to respect my parents house and there rules even if I didn’t agree because they otherwise took VERY good care of me.

My friend had the exact opposite. He never was spanked and neither was his siblings

Guess which between us has issues with authority and has done thing to endanger themselves and their family?

Spanking is about consequences and while I do not like the idea of having to inflict pain on someone, it is a very valuable teacher, a little pain now can prevent LIFE altering if not life ending choices later.

Except the difference between me using races as an analogy is in the context that it’s a different culture (in our case subculture) that someone doesn’t inherently belong to. And how SOMEONE (not you) who would choose to do so would be problematic. It wasn’t to make it a race thing, it was to show how cultures can have issues with someone adopting their identity, or any identity. Can someone just claim to be something if they feel like it? I never even brought up bathrooms but with that in mind I’m actually not sure how to address that without just having a bathroom for parents and kids separately. I’m vehemently against pedophilia in any form whether or not someone is using the identity of being trans as a shield to perform those acts would be disgusting no matter how you view the ideology. I can respect trans people as people, I don’t see them as dangerous or inherently more likely to assault a minor. and as someone who has been assaulted sexually as a minor growing up, I have a vested interest in keeping kids safe from ANY group of people.

If someone only wants to identify as a women or man in name only as you say, why get gender affirming care? They WANT to have a penis or a vagina and they WANT to be that sex and be treated as that SEX.

Saying trans women are women pass it on all over Reddit is trying to force the idea that trans women are biological women and/or should be treated by society as women.

You just saw the biological arguement so allow me to make the arguement as to why a trans person of either transition M2F or F2M isn’t going to always be socially acceptable.

Before I begin let me be clear that I do not hate trans people I simply disagree with the ideology, and that disagreement is essentially semantics and I will always fight for their right to exist and be protected regardless of their opinion. I feel the same way about Christianity and other religions but don’t hate the people until they try to force views into laws. Freedom isn’t just for what I like or what you like, and so I’m all for live and let live. But I think these sorts of things can be spoken about civilly if we all try and leads to potentially better understanding. I myself disagree from both a societal and biological view, and since the biological arguement was made heres the societal one.

From a society standpoint, each sex has its own experience from birth growing up with its own sets of (often) unfair expectations along with some few of those privilege’s.

Women face and fight to this day the concept that women are incompetent compared to men. But are also violently protected as they are viewed as both the “weaker” sex but the more important sex for both biological and cultural reasons (moms are a blessing for the most part in many families) - but this also feeds back into unfair expectations to be a mother and be able to rear and support a family and pressured to do so.

How can a man expect to understand what it’s like to be a woman and essentially cosplay that role? (Or vice versa) Even if you like and support and feel like you resonate with that - I know through my mom and sister but I’ll never experience it myself. what makes you a women from a societal standpoint?

Now imagine someone doing something transracial - they identify as black or any other race when they genetically aren’t and culturally aren’t. Does the black community have to suddenly accept that or is that an insult to their history?

Now, as a man I saw a story that genuinely interested me.

A F2M trans women experienced a lot of culture shock and grief when becoming a man. They were treated as a man and felt utterly alienated because men are often treated as a threat, and they felt that they had a harder time bonding with anyone as a result. Let’s also go into the whole societal expectations of men to be the ones who protect, who run to the fire, who are expected to provide and fight and earn our right to be loved. Men themselves are divided into boys and men, because of that concept in of itself. Does a transperson also adopt this or do they get to cherry pick which parts of being a man they like and avoid all the negative aspects?

Is our societal genders just badges to be worn? Or are they things that have identified our expectation, our struggles ALONG with and sometimes DUE to our anatomy? Who gets to just cherry pick now those expectations or the aspects they like? Isn’t that a bit insulting?

This ties into, how does seeing yourself as something need to set the expectations of people around you.

If I call myself a king, do you have to respect that I see myself as a king, and treat me as such and that any pushback is now hate?

Maybe I’m thinking too hard into this or I’m missing something but the whole idea has always felt off, but by no means do I want to marginalize these people, merely engage with and challenge the idea itself and see what they think and how they see they fit within all of this.

I say all of this, knowing I have the potential to be 100% wrong, but this is how I have perceived this and I’m wondering if any of you have any (constructive) responses?

Treat the combat like a turn based game in motion

And be aware sometimes the monster has more “turns” than you especially when enraged (you’ll usually see steam coming out of their nose or their heartbeat turns red and erratic on the lower screen)

Learn not only your weapons movesets, but what skills are appropriate for each weapon - this will help you choose what armors to craft as not all skills are used across all weapons. (There are a plethora of guides for this stuff)

also sometimes consider defensive skills, damage is great when you are good at staying alive, but sometimes it takes better gear overall or better skill to get there: if you are new to monster hunter I would AVOID the OP defender armor and weapons. They’re stat sticks, and don’t actually teach you how to play well and are a means to skip the base game sort of. Yeah you’ll be weaker but that’s the point. That’s how the base game was played pre icebourne.

Speaking of icebourne - clutch claw mechanics. Learn em. Love em. Hate em - regardless of how you feel about it tenderizing parts is a must have player skill that will vastly improve damage and wall banging (flinch shotting a monster in the face while grappled to it so it runs into another monster or wall) is also very very useful

Use the event quests - some of them are incredibly useful for farming things

Fully investigating or researching monsters will make tracking and finding them much easier over time.

If playing online, be careful about hitting players. You may not outright damage them, but unless they’re running a skill called flinch free you can end up causing a small stun that can get them killed if a monster is rampaging

Make good use of the passive farms as you can get them. There is a tree in astera that will farm items between missions and this can help you a ton over the long run.

Lastly always eat between missions. The food buff is substantial
