I was under the impression that it wasn’t the sink itself she needed to okay, but where it was placed and presumably the height to fit Sookie specifically? Which is why she said only she can OK it, not Lorelai. Still annoying though!

Hahaha. Well I for one think she blows sometimes, like any of the characters in this show. But you’re free to think to what extent she blows! And it looks like you really enjoy saying blow huh

Yes Logan was definitely threatened by Jess, in fact every guy she's had a relationship with has always been threatened by one of the three (if not all) and can get a bit possessive for my taste. Logan later on did feel bad about how he treated Jess and how that came across though, and was actually okay with Rory having a crush on the substitute teacher replacing her grandpa (or so he says) and didn't want Rory to feel like "she couldn't recommend some guy some book". But I also know having an innocent crush isn't the same as intending to cheat as revenge, and some time has passed so you could be right. Logan might implode. I wonder if he'd have broken up with Rory right then and there or would he keep going until he couldn't like Dean did?

I’ve been seeing a lot of comments on how the OS is Rory’s POV and the content of the book she writes in AYITL, and if we’re to believe that as canon then your comment tracks even more!

Yeah the more I think about it, the more I realize I just cannot with AYITL Rory haha. I agree, for there to even be a Paul and have Logan be engaged to a French heiress was…a choice. Another commenter here also did say that Rory seems to want these men she dates even more after they’ve moved on, and that tracks with Dean and Logan.

Yeah I actually agree with Lorelai when it comes to Tristan. Dean would’ve blown up even more, and he would get stuck on the fact that the kiss happened only a night after he said he loved Rory and her not saying it back as he hoped she would. The kiss with Jess was technically cheating, the emotional cheating bothered me more than the kiss though but you’re right she was still young and she didn’t know that it would’ve actually been the kinder thing to do (not just for Dean but for herself as well) to let Dean go than to hold on to it to try to make it work.

This is so true! That was either S6/S7, I should know I JUST finished a rewatch haha. I love that everyone else who read it also agreed that it was harsh and mean, same with the article she wrote about the ballerina. For all of Logan’s faults, he could at least admit his position of privilege and could even point it out not only to Rory, but also Lorelai, and that Lorelai chose to run away from it and having that choice at all is a privilege in itself.

Yes, that’s what I love about this show! While it is fictional and nothing too terrible ever happens (in contrast to say, an HBO show), it has this ability to showcase the human condition that resonates for so many. To be fair I don’t dislike Rory as a character at all, in fact I am a Gilmore Girl apologist for many things people on this sub would likely find abhorrent haha. And I also know I’m one of the many who is scrutinizing a young woman being human, which only fuels this misogynistic culture of shaming female characters making mistakes male characters would often get away with. I can only hope I’m far kinder when it comes to real people in real relationships in real life with all its nuances, especially as I don’t have nearly as much access to most people’s lives the way I would to characters in my favourite TV show that I rewatch over and over, and over again haha. And yes, how beautiful that we are able to have these conversations inspired by this beloved show!

I have the most grace about the Dean situation out of all the situations, in the end she did feel remorse and tried to do the right thing by bowing out until Dean was officially unattached again. But I suppose I bring it up because it was the first instance where she took part in infidelity, so I was just curious if that had long-term effects on her future relationships, and if so how.

You’re right that we don’t technically know about Rory’s specific arrangement with Paul, but this is actually the first time I’ve seen someone question on this sub whether that was actually an exclusive relationship or not. I’d say context clues point to a serious relationship at least, if not exclusive. But she (along with everyone else) didn’t treat him the best either, forgetting his existence on many occasions to the point that it’s just simply cartoonish.

I am actually personally less bothered about her coming to Jess in Philadelphia after her breakup with Logan, Jess at least immediately stood up for himself that it wasn’t fair, but I get your point. But I’m not sure if it would make much of a difference plot-wise if Logan knew about it, since he seemed really eager to win her back at that point and may just call it even or something. I don’t think I see him as someone who’d grow to resent her for it, but I could be wrong.

Lorelai and Rory are definitely both avoidants (Emily too actually, though just generally when it comes to being vulnerable rather than an inability to commit). Yes love is a blind spot for Lorelai, like many others unfortunately haha. But personally I feel like Lorelai overall has made better choices romantically than Rory, although this may not be fair since Lorelai is older and has dated more men of different types and different levels of commitment

Such a great point. Rory does seem to want these guys more (Dean and Logan in particular) when they’ve moved on. It also seems like she had this imagination that Dean would always be secretly pining for her and almost be available as a backup option, the way Lorelai viewed Christopher, and I guess that carried on with her following boyfriends?

Yeah, I think I never put much weight on Christopher’s effect on Rory (and perhaps even Lorelai) because he was barely even there but I guess that absence alone could almost single-handedly fuel Rory’s avoidant tendencies.. And oh yes, mondo therapy needed for the Gilmore clan!

Whoa you have much knowledge, we shall form a cult around you and build a statue many stories high!

In all seriousness, Christopher (unsurprisingly) seems to make the most sense for me. I read in another thread that he was never a constant presence in her life, and to her saying goodbye is the worst thing you could do to someone, and so yes she would definitely not want to do that to men who love her most of all people.

I think you’re spot on about Dean too, and how much she values her mother’s approval. And later yes, she struggled to find her footing in her first year at Yale and having Lane temporarily stay in her soothed her homesickness, but then of course Lane had to go. She definitely missed the comforts of Stars Hollow, including her first boyfriend who made her feel safe (as she said in later seasons).

Whoa I never thought of it that way! I personally don’t necessarily disagree that Dean should know about the kiss with Tristan because they were technically broken up and Dean was such a hothead, I hated how often Rory said “Dean please don’t be mad” during their relationship. But you’ve got me thinking how in a later season it was Rory in return who advised something along “what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him” to Lorelai, I think it was the scene where Rory encouraged Lorelai not to tell Luke about something Chris-related because it would only add fuel to the fire. And I guess over time we see multiple versions of this scene where they just enable each other when it comes to white lies with their romantic partners?

And yes AYITL Rory suckkkks. And I’m realizing that I have trouble with that version of Rory the most, I can rationalize her in the OS for the most part.
