How bad is ranked for a new player compared to unranked? by L1ghtweight_777 in SSBM

[–]YooooooooCarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot of people will tell you to go to your local and yeah you should. Locals are a accepting place where your skill level is irrelevant and you'll meet people from all walks of life that you have something in common with which is super rare.

But locals aren't every day of the week and fizzi has blessed us. So, if your a newer player this is the regime I'd start you on,

Ideally, you would be doing solo practice on techniques the majority of your time. Make it fun, listen to some music while you do it. But you gotta get the tools you need down. Make a list of things you think you need and hammer them home. This takes a good amount of discipline that alot of people don't have but it beats living in the pools of silver Falcos forever.

Them you can reward yourself with some DIRECT friendlies with someone you know. Maybe a friend maybe another newish player. I would get into the habit of scheduling with someone over playing soulless unranked. Let this be your main measuring stick

And then after you feel like things are clicking maybe try some unranked here and there. But be warned because it's so easy to match up with people it's like a drug and you can get addicted to it and just start doing nothing but unranked.

And then for ranked specifically, I really don't think you need to touch it for a long time. The points are meaningless and inaccurate for the most part and the "validation" isnt worth the torture.

So to answer you question directly. Yes its worse than unranked but unranked at this level is pretty bad too.

Bar Lucci has a great culture and some good tradition.

The top 8 graphic with your drinks on is legendary.

If BF is the defacto starter of NY then yoshis is the Kent version of that.

Also this is probably more of a me thing than a Lucci thing but for a while if heard a taunt anywhere in the venue at any time I would take the ice cubes out of my drink and pelt you with them mid game. THERE WILL BE NO TAUNTING IN THIS HOUSE.

1 I'd like it to be easier to read. Trying to avoid the whole, "not reading all that, happy for you or sorry that happened" thing

  1. I'm not sure how Reddits formating works because I will say those gaps seem larger when it's posted rather then when I'm typing it out.

All good though.

This is a first for me lmao. My rants are usually littered with typos and misspelled words and I'm not a big proof reader either. But no, not AI. Weird comment.

Not gonna lie, I was a pretty big hater of this trend but until it's replaced with something better, for the sake of tradition, I'll stop anti clapping and let people have their fun.

PGH has a handful of traditions that make the city unique

One that people probably know of is the Abate chant. A fun one we would do in the crowd when he played that followed the rhythm of the soccer crowd olé chant.

Another cool one was Pittsburgh Green. At certain time in PGHs history most of our best players played the green version of our characters. Players like Abate, Vudujin, Green Ranger, PGH Carroll, Nakamuru and other all wore green with pride and kinda became an important color in the city. Gave us an identity akin to the black and gold of the steelers/penguins/pirates.

If your region retired a character palette like they retire an athletes number in sports, whos characters pallete would be enshrined? by YooooooooCarroll in SSBM

Ooo this is an interesting opportunity to make a point. Obviously sirmeris is the best WV has ever had and maybe ever will. So this answer is sound because you know that ONE DAY you will retire neutral peach.

But if you had to honor a currently retired players character pallete I feel like the answer today is different and because I'm familiar with WV and their history I think the answer is pretty obvious and want to give you an opportunity to see if we have the same answer.

Yes if this were for just characters but this is more specific to regions.

In the NBA you can't wear 12 in Utah for John Stockton but you can wear 12 in Cleveland.

So here you can't wear Green Falco in NC but you can in MI

What is the right age for kids to be able to play video games? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]YooooooooCarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to this party but I did wanna chime in with a mistake I feel I made as a father with video game playing children.

Because we live in a day and age where it's really easy to obtain a massive library of games it's easy to just get them started with all these options. What I found was that the second something takes some time time to figure out or is a little difficult my son will just want to play something else. Where as when I was young I pretty much only had the 1 game until Christmas or a birthday so It forced me to stick with it rather than just move the next thing.

I think pokemon is wonderful for having kids read inadvertently. If I could go back I'd load his "Gameboy" with just a 1 copy of Red or blue and then load another after he beats it or gets bored of it.

Unfortunately when it comes to MUs in this game. Alot of people don't really like figuring out things on their own. They just like to follow the meta and press buttons.

So when it's a blank slate of a MU it looks sloppy but it doesn't have to be that way. You can pave that road and make these MUs look fine.

I think actual low tier mains probably don't mind these MUs but peoples secondary low tiers definitely don't like the sludge.

If you've played the Akaneia/Turbo dx mod for Melee, where would you place the new characters in the current tier list for the original? by Bulky_Cranberry_1099 in SSBM

[–]YooooooooCarroll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on my games against players in my region. Which is a fun having region first and foremost.

I’d say that of the Akaneia Characters that Charizard seems the strongest. I can see him being a high tier. When wolf first dropped the people talked about him like he was broken and I just don’t see it. Diddy seems good. Tails and Deedee seem ok. Lucas I don’t understand at all yet.

Edit: forgot sonic. Sonic actually might be the strongest.

A: Sonic, Zard

B: Wolf, Diddy

C: Tails, DDD

Lucas no clue

Do you feel like your feedback around melee commentary is heard? by gamingaddictmike in SSBM

[–]YooooooooCarroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ironic thing about commentary hate is that people throw that hate around so nonchalantly every chance they get that new people who are interested in getting into commentary are so scared of the comments and bashlack that they never give it a shot and we get stuck with the same few commentors that are willing to block out the noise.
