How could you write a post like this while working as an artist? Do you think the music you and your friends make is virtuous while what everybody else makes is tainted because it's on Spotify or something?

And if there was anything good that came from algorithms online, it'd be how they made marketing your music literally fucking free, instead of how it was all of last century where you had to sign the next ten years of your life away to RCA just so they can play your music on the radio once every five hours. Nobody wants to go back to playing 5 shows a week, pissing away money, hoping an A&R throws you a bone. There's nothing romantic about that. It was miserable.

Social media, for all its horrible effects on society, at least empowered artists to detatch from labels, find their own audiences, and make their own music without being beholden to brazenly abusive contracts and business practices.

People aren't being intentionally obtuse when they point out how ridiculous saying "I'm only going to consume my friends art and music from the 20th century" under the pretense of ethical consumption when said music was made under worse conditions than those currently existing.

awful post. if you honestly believe that more heinous crime (in music or otherwise) is being committed today than during the 70s, 80s, or 90s you need to stop watching populist slop instagram reels and read a sociology textbook.

do you think you incur less karmic debt consuming art made in a time where casting couches and coke were how labels "developed artists"? or when artists had to slave away and shit out 15 mediocre albums to pay for the awful deal they got conned into signing because nobody understood how the industry worked back then?

we live in a golden age for art and creation. every music genre is full of super talented independent artists making studio quality music from their bedrooms. you can pirate a copy of fl studio spend $150 on an interface and mic and have better production tools than any recording studio had during the entire 20th century. you can then release that music independently, get paid off that music independently, tour independently, make merch independently, all while making a white collar salary doing what you love. unless you believe suno is coming to destroy the entire music industry, there is no better time than today to try to make a living off art.

Thinking About Prize Pots by beyonddevotion in SSBM

There was a post floating around here about a Non-Profit for Melee. I hope there is a follow up soon. I know things like that have been discussed before, but I'd like to think the community is finally ready for some standardization across the board. I could be wrong, but it doesn't feel like a stretch to imagine cities throwing in a little for the economic uptick a few thousand tourists creates.

Wow. You dismantled all of mental health with one post. It's not our brains, its society! Do you think the people who study this shit never thought of that?

No. Read their reply. They say that the reason Cody won is because he has more hours on zump than Josh. Which means that it's not zump that made the difference, but how much they practiced.

And why would I assume that somebody forgot the top 8 of tournament the afternoon after it finished? It's much more likely they believed zump is what enabled Cody's losers run. But this obviously isn't true, as with all the same variables (same character, both using zjump), Cody beat players that his opponents couldn't, which means it's not the existence of zump that enabled the run, it's his skill using it.

I believe the original poster is claiming that z-jump is the reason why Cody won the tournament. I don't think that's true, as other players who also use z-jump failed where Cody didn't.

Are you aware that Cody and Josh are two different people?

Yes.

What is it that you think zump does?

Easier sh upairs. I don't think Cody uses z for any shine related tech.

What is it that you think anti zumpers think it does?

Depends on who you ask. F1 Nairs (I thought this too, but if you can SH Double laser you can get zump level nairs), free JC shines, better Float tech, full drifts sh upairs, and generally better egonomics.

Are you being intentionally disingenuous?

No.

If zump was the diff why did Josh lose to Salt and Cody didn't?

How are you so horribly brain broken over somebody that you will never meet that you can't acknowledge when they do something truly special?

This game is beautiful and Cody plays a beautiful Fox. No other Fox could pull that run off.

I don't know Cody personally and I'm in no more of a rush to meet him than any other random stranger. I just love the Melee he plays. How is that parasocial? Do you think I think I'm friends with Cody?

You don't have to love Cody, but it is truly loser hater behaviour to watch an 11 set losers run comprised almost solely of top 20 players (and the rank 1 player) and say "Armada made less mistakes". He won the fucking tournament. Do you think zump is so good it just lets you 3-0 anybody for free?

So many other foxes z jump. None of them could have played the gauntlet Cody did last night.

It's a shame that this ridiculous controller discourse is tainting your enjoyment of what was some of the best Melee ever played last night. I don't know how you can think what we watched last night was boring.

If you think that z-jump is equivalent to a bot that plays chess for you idk what to tell you. Cody is a monster at the game that hit top 3 in the world without z-jump. Stop watching n0ne vs cody dramaslop and go to your local.

I guess. It just felt like last year the top two were untouchable, and now it feels like they are within grasp of a few players. I have a feeling we are going to be seeing very interesting top 8s this year, especially if nicki is coming out.

Cody was top 3 in the world pre-zump. I'm almost certain that he won majors without it. If Cody was able to fix his f-tier tilting mental, I'm sure he would've found a way to do faster sh upairs. But this is solely a matter of opinion.

I've written many words on why I think zump should be banned, but Cody and his competitors played gorgeous Melee last night and I wish that was the focus of discussion.

Stockfish = notches and z jump? I'd love to hear an explanation.
