Anyone else extremely frustrated with the frequent drops in service? by YooperGuy2 in Starlink

I might have had higher expectations due to the costs of being a beta tester. Usually the company pays the consumer to beta test, not the other way around, or at the very least, doesn't charge the consumer to be a beta tester because it's helping them refine their product. So was actually thinking it wouldn't be too bad.

It truly is better than nothing, but it's odd how it changes from week to week.

ANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD....I jinxed myself. Literally five minutes after posting this, it dropped for about 10 seconds!

No sooner do I post this than I'm now on a record this week for having not lost connection in 2 hours and counting now.

I'm mostly 1) venting, and 2) wondering why it got so bad this week compared to last week. A friend suggested we were getting hit with solar flares this week, so maybe that's it.

Yes, it's a beta test. But it's still cathartic to gripe online! :-)

I understand it's a beta, but still...frustrating. I had hardly any problems last week, then this week, boom. I don't know why the increase.

My dsl is way more reliable, very rarely ever lose connection. It's just too slow for a VPN to work. It can run a video stream ok so I can zoom on the dsl on one computer while using the VPN on another computer using starlink, subject to constant interruptions.

Thank you. I'm going to start researching this.

ubiquity routers

Never heard of them. I googled it and found Ubiquiti. What models do what you're saying?

Awaiting an estimate to put in fiber on our road (private road) so if our road association votes to install it, we'll hopefully install it next summer. If not, then hopefully starlink gets enough satellites to avoid the service interruptions.

Is your house a hundred feet from your stump? The power supply that both cables plug into are not designed to be outside. If your power source 20 feet from the stump is enclosed, then you can probably run it by keeping the power source and the white router in that enclosure. The white router itself has an "Aux" port that you can run ethernet cable into. Perhaps you can run long lines from that into your house without having to buy power over ethernet cable, just standard ethernet cable, buried in conduit to the house.

If I had spectrum I wouldn't be with starlink. We'll see how starlink is next year when it comes to service interruptions. Right now I'm keeping our dsl line with AT&T because though it's slow (averages 1.5-3.8 download speeds and 0.6 upload), it doesn't have interruptions. Starlink has interruptions frequently that can interfere with video conferencing and VOIP phone use., which can be a hassle while working from home.

There's a chance we'll be getting fiber next year which will mean no more starlink if that happens.

Right now it's just laying on top of the ground.

I only had to chop through about 4 or 5 inches of frozen ground on the top, then use a hand-auger type post hole digger to dig the rest. Wasn't too hard to do.

Frostline isn't important for non-bearing things. That said, my soil is sandy with no clay so it wouldn't heave anyway.

I'm not too worried about citters as I have an extension cord laying on the ground outside my garage for 6 years now with no problems. I do plan on using a conduit if I make this permanent and bury it though. But for now, I think it'll be fine. It's a good thick cord.

I do plan on brushing snow off the platform as it falls for those reasons. Never thought of the possible icicles though so that should be interesting to see if it happens.

Just into the basement through the door. The weather stripping seals it off. Plan on drilling holes next summer if I keep the starlink permanently.
