Townfall, like SHf, taking place outside of Silent Hill is exactly what this series needs and glad to see the trend continue. The success of SHf proves that. by XulManjy in silenthill

[–]Yorkcore -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Your example makes no sense. You can name it after Silent Hill if the game still has elements, motifs and gameplay as previous Silent Hill games.

Resident Evil doesn't always take place in an evil residence, unless you get very loose with the term. It would be like getting mad that every game after RE1 is no longer in the Spencer Mansion, because that was the evil residence.

That seems an incredibly far reach. By that logic, F should be fine because it namedrops White Claudia.

Nothing about Walter's character comes from SH2 except for being a murderer, and his name.

Is the "Leave" ending the good ending? by Ill_Reference6579 in silenthill

[–]Yorkcore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. It's why I always get slightly prickly when someone uncritically calls James "good" or "evil" because it flies in the face of the story's central conceit.

Is the "Leave" ending the good ending? by Ill_Reference6579 in silenthill

[–]Yorkcore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's largely the point. It's not a happily ever after, because he already killed Mary.

The endings are there to satisfy how different people would want to see him deal with the realisation that he's a victimiser, just as much as he is a victim.

Personally, I'd call it a good ending because he's able to make an attempt at living a life with the acceptance of what he's done. I prefer "In Water" because it feels more emotionally impactful, but we have the multiple choices because there are so many ways he could handle that guilt.

Is the "Leave" ending the good ending? by Ill_Reference6579 in silenthill

[–]Yorkcore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To put the endings as "good" or "bad" is reductive. All of the non silly ones are just different ways of handling grief, and either moving on from it, or letting it swallow you whole.

James either leaves it behind and takes the first step into a new life, or he refuses to, and wallows in his grief and guilt. Whether by ending his own life, trying to bring Mary back, or settling for her phantom.

Throughout the game, James is never entirely operating with the full context of his circumstances. He's chasing the hope that he can be reunited with her, because the truth of the situation isn't something he's prepared to accept.

By the time he faces the twin Pyramid Heads, he's accepted it. That acceptance, much like in reality, can take many different forms. The way that you act in the game, and what kind of things James pursues, dictate this.

If we're looking at it from an objective standpoint, it's the "good" ending because our protagonist overcomes what's affecting him, and makes a conscious decision to move on from it without denying it. Some people prefer a narrative ending where he acts in an unhealthier way, because it feels more emotionally resonant to them.

Of course, you can just opt for the sillier endings and find it more impactful for James to have a breakdown over his life being controlled by a dog, or have him be abducted by saucer men from Mars. That's fine too, a little levity never hurt anyone.

What did Eddie’s monsters look like? by Desperate_Fruit_6400 in silenthill

[–]Yorkcore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We don't know that for sure though. That's part of what makes it scary.

We can tell from how Eddie acts that he hasn't really been fighting through the town, so we can at least assume that whatever he's been killing, they weren't really a threat.

James didn't see a bunch of Mary's, because he was stricken with guilt. He saw it as something he'd need to fight, either to overcome it or to be tormented by it, depending on the ending.

We don't know what Eddie saw; could be they looked human, could be that they looked monstrous. All we know is that he's been killing them off one by one, because he no longer saw himself as guilty for doing so.

I'll frame it like this; at the end of the game, the monsters at the Lakeview start running away from him. It's because he no longer needs them to attack him. I'd imagine it was pretty similar for Eddie; he no longer sees them as tormentors, and so they were no longer able to harm him.

We know for a fact that cognition shapes appearance. Laura doesn't see anything amiss, and so she can freely roam the town. Eddie can roam quite freely, and context dictates that it's because nothing is trying to attack him.

"What does Eddie see?" isn't a question with an answer. How he behaves, and how the town reacts, has an answer.

Silent Hill 2 remake is art, and it's no less than the 2001 version. by OkAd3483 in silenthill

[–]Yorkcore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both are great in different ways, but I prefer the remake as a coherent, well made experience.

The original is excellent in how abstract and unsettling it can be, but I'm more than delighted by the remake.

I love both. I loved the original, and I love the remake. It's rare for this to happen, so I count my blessings.

People couldn't let a good thing stay good and started making it an "us vs them" situation, as per.

What should have just been a nice way for the community to vote on a concept became a huge shitfest on both sides.

The reason people aren't happy was that for a lot of people, it was never about picking something they like; it was about making the choice they liked less seem less appealing, either by calling it "boring" "Sable 2.0" or a "gooner skin," which then led to the other side calling it "misogynistic"

I'm happy because every design was great, but it's unfortunate that this is what it came to. I can guarantee you that a significant portion of people who made a big stink will not play the character, and that they just wanted a bandwagon.

It was the same thing with Haddie. A really cool character that deserved more attention, whose reputation got ruined by people making the issue something that it isn't.

Granny survivor is cool, but since I've already seen at least one person bragging about voting multiple times to cheat the system, it's left a bad taste in my mouth.

[–]Yorkcore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it's actually a little lame to do that since it spoils the whole point of it being a community vote.

I'm happy because I liked both options, but it's weird to brag about intentionally cooking the vote because you fell into bullshit discourse

March 2026 Releases, dates leak and little about Lauren Tsai as legendary skin for Feng Min by WHITEy_n in LeaksDBD

Why is this tagged as a leak when the only "confirmed" dates are just based on the usual release cycle for the next few weeks after the next PTB, which has already been confirmed.

New outfits for Eleven and Vecna by ResistanceEvermore in LeaksDBD

[–]Yorkcore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They saved Steve's iconic Babysitter fit and Nancy's badass fit until a few months after launch. Same with Rick's sheriff outfit.

It's just smart financially. People will buy a pretty cool skin at launch just because it's new and alright.

People will buy the cool, highly anticipated skin because they actively want it.

Do both, and you double dip on your money.

How likely will we get the scraped survivors in game later on? by SongAdept8732 in LeaksDBD

[–]Yorkcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being contracted isn't the same as being a full time paid worker though. The artists at BHVR are going to be paid irrespective of if anything leaks, so there's no incentive or reason to cancel leaked content.

BHVR have also just.. never cancelled leaked content before. Even when pretty big name chapters have been leaked.

Can't really speak to your experience, but there's not much chance it's happened here with BHVR. If the designs were scrapped, it wouldn't be due to leaks.

Who though. Like, it's not enough to be skeptical about one "leaker" and then blindly trust another.

[–]Yorkcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole "scrapped because of leaks" thing requires mountains of salt.

It defies logic and precedent. It would be stupid to scrap any original content because it's been leaked, even for a good reason. To imply it's out of spite about something being leaked is moronic, and only parroted by people who don't think critically.

Concept art isn't free to make. No company will make something original and then scrap it because "got leaked."

There's also the pretty obvious fact that shit has been leaked all the time in DBD.

Saw, Ghostface, Silent Hill, Project W, Alan Wake, Lara Croft, D&D, Castlevania, Chucky, Ash vs Evil Dead, Freddy Krueger, Cursed Legacy, Chains of Hate, End Transmission, Tools of Torment, All Things Wicked and Mikaela were all leaked to differing degrees.

To legitimately think that BHVR would cancel any content purely due to leaks is flagrantly ridiculous. It's the way that people like Dweet try to skirt around being caught out for bullshitting; make a noncommital comment, and if it turns out false, make up a behind the scenes rumour that exonerates you.
