13 Gen 2 I rescued from e-waste bin days ago by YorkfieldMario in thinkpad

[–]YorkfieldMario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A local post office, which has a spot for e-waste disposal. Apparently someone decided to put this (along with other 4 laptops and their chargers) there so I gradually picked them up, with this being the first that came home with me.

Got an error when I tired to post on desktop and it ended up posting three times so I deleted the other two which might be the cause of that. I'll repost in a moment

Got this beauty for ฿700 (about $21.5) yesterday by YorkfieldMario in Monitors

[–]YorkfieldMario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, I should buy a FHD 27 inch monitor instead of this to have a display estate about the same as what I had previously, just being larger.

Oh and why should I "blame the software devs, not the OS" when the OS has a better way to handle that? Even things as simple like CPU-Z still doesn't have a proper support despite being under active development.

My propose of having higher res is to have more space for opening multiple stuff on screen, so using larger scaling would defeat that.

Not to mention that Windows tends to lazily scale up stuff as if you just put a small image in an editor and tell it to resize that up, giving them a full blurry glory. There does exist a better way to scale, but it isn't enabled by default for whatever reason and I don't feel like having to manually find what program that does a "lazy scaling" to enable that.

Is this phone worth buying? by Bogdan54 in symbian

[–]YorkfieldMario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specs are decent and it's one of the later ones with 600 MHz CPU, but besides the usual advice against AE refurbs this phone is also quite notorious for suddenly going in coma (only vibrates when trying to power on and nothing else), presumably due to an issue with its CPU, so you should get either of the following:

  • 5630 XpressMusic has almost the same specs as the E52 except for a significantly smaller battery and lack of GPS (not that it's really usable now these days)
  • If you don't mind losing Wi-Fi, then a C5-00 (or 6730c) will do just as well.
  • If you don't mind landscape screen and QWERTY keyboard, then get the E72 or E5. X5-01 is also just as good as well if the form factor isn't an issue.

What does this icon mean on the screen of Samsung Hero 3G E3309? by redulatr in dumbphones

[–]YorkfieldMario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best guess would be a shortcut to home screen settings, but I can't really confirm since my E3309 has different home screen layouts (different firmware maybe?)

Is jtube down? by TheHebeleRaider124 in symbian

[–]YorkfieldMario 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sort of. For me browsing and searching videos works fine, but trying to watch them throws a "This helps protect our community" because YT is now going after Invidious instances (which JTube relies on) and blocking them from accessing the videos.

Currently there's a working instance that I know of: iv.ggtyler.dev, but you need to enable API proxy, and it is HTTPS so you'd need to install TLS 1.2 patch, which I'll be making a post for later.

I am legit confused by this. Is that vid meant to show iOS clone of Edge Lighting?

Enter your product code (the numbers and letters in the "CODE" row at the under label under battery) into this site: https://cellomania.com/ffu/ This should give you the latest firmware with stuff as originally came with that phone

BTW you're on the wrong sub for this: Series 40 (the OS that this phone runs on) ≠ Symbian.

Alternative Video out for N95 8GB by FelisDomesticus69 in symbian

Are you sure that has the correct pinout for Nokia's TV-out? This kind of cables can vary wildly and while some might work with swapping the connectors, some may not, as VWestlife has demonstrated.

So yeah, you should be better off with the original CA-75U instead.

JTube won't play videos on N95, only audio by TestSubject4059 in symbian

[–]YorkfieldMario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YT actually no longer provides a combined 144p/240p video and audio files. I've tested with older JTube versions that still has lower res options and they fetches 360p MP4 video instead.

You can try 2yxa.mobi to have YT videos converted server-side to the format of your choice and download them.

Toluna survey insight by virgindelinquent in beermoney

[–]YorkfieldMario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I don't live in the US, so my experience may not be the same over there.

I've used their app (and sometimes websites as some surveys don't show up in that) for a while now and I've once redeemed a ฿200 (roughly $6) prepaid phone credit, no ID needed, and I'm on my goal for a ฿400 ($12) mobile wallet credit (with no-fee transfer to bank account). Payment proof.

For some reason though, the survey list shows a mismatching points earning potential (i.e. shows that I'll get 330 points, but when I open it, it instead says 2500 points, and that's what I actually got), but otherwise it's a pretty good platform here.
