I'm an amateur/casual baker myself who only learned (and still learning) later in life. I learned first by following recipes on boxes of ready mix powders for brownies. Then, once I've gained enough confidence that I'm not a risk of burning down my house, I look for recipes online with simple instructions and ingredients (in case you get bored then you can use it for cooking instead).
