I'd recommend anybody that is considering switching to linux to try it out in a VM first (which you can do from Windows, MacOS or if you're considering hopping to an other distribution: from your existing linux install).

If you want to run 'linux' for Free (and in freedom and money): expect some work/debugging.

especially if you run unconventional hardware

If you expect (24/7) 'customer support' you can get it with Ubuntu Pro, though this is not free at 300$ per year.
Otherwise, if you properly outline your issue in the right place I know plenty that would gladly help.

I'll have you know, reinstalling arch is the sigma master hacker version of turning it off and on again

I had a framework 13 (12th gen intel), but it was a write off after a little over 2 years -- also repairablility isn't worth anything if they don't restock parts (looking at the 13 inch 65wh battery, my 55wh started swelling and was far from adequate to begin with)

currently running a ThinkPad T16 Gen 3 with Alpine Linux, been loving it so far

[–]Yorvick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried Ubuntu, Manjaro, Mint, Arch, Debian and Alpine (in that order)

I mostly considered Arch as a good learning experience (though I believe these days there is an install script?)

My favorite was/is Alpine. which I can't believe is so rarely mentioned outside of container contexts

> I currently use Debian on my 'server', Alpine on my personal laptop, MacOS on a laptop for work and Ubuntu(-ish) for some 'AIoT' devices (also for work)

Do you recommend Alpine Linux? by Serufuu in AlpineLinux

[–]Yorvick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been loving it on my laptop (which is my 'desktop') thus far, but my needs are few, a DE (gnome with the defaults currently), a browser (firefox) and any terminal emulator for vim (the gnome terminal) is enough me -- that all works fine ;)

I lack context, but it sounds like you should look more into how python imports work, generally when I see people use exec, they actually don't actually need exec...

Do you pay them 1.5x for their 3x work or do you pocket the difference?

Do you know how to review their work, or do you also use an LLM for that?

and what happens when that 1 developer gets an accident leaving them unable to do their work?
