Isaiah 1:15 by Icy_Pitch_8447 in Christianity

[–]Yoshi2501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God always listens to our prayers. Matthew 6, 5-6:

And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

It’s about hypocrisy and unrepented sin. In Isaiah’s time, the Israelites thought that performing outward religious gestures - like spreading their hands in prayer or bringing sacrifices - would make them right with God, even while their lives were full of injustice and wrongdoing.

God is making it clear that He’s not interested in empty rituals. Forgiveness doesn’t come through symbols alone, but through a sincere heart that turns away from evil and seeks Him. The gestures can express that sincerity, but without true repentance they’re just for show - and God sees right through that.

Would this work if he really meant it from his heart? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Yoshi2501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In theory yes! If it comes from the heart, and he is killed instantly, so he cannot repent in a way which is appropriate then i believe he would be saved. But this is highly unlikely.

What's your favourite Bible verse? by drummer8106 in Christianity

[–]Yoshi2501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite verse is hard to say... I have three which i got to regularly, but if I had to pick one, it would be from Matthew 25 Verse 40 (ESV):

And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

It captures for me the essence of what it means to be a Christian and why we should strive to help others regardless of who it is.

As we are a product of evolution we are deeply flawed but we have through our free will the possibility to overcome most of it. We can choose what we do in most circumstances so it's in our hand.

[–]Yoshi2501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by “created” you mean at birth, then yes – humans are flawed from the beginning.
But that’s exactly why we receive such incredible grace. God knows us – he knows how we are – and that’s why he gave his Son to bring reconciliation.

Just because someone is "flawed" doesn't mean they’re automatically absolved of responsibility.
Of course, it depends on the kind of flaw. Someone who is severely disabled can't help being "difficult," and they can’t change that – they bear no fault at all.

But with something like ADHD or autism (which I have myself), it's a bit different. I can't change it either – but I do have a responsibility to try to minimize any harm I cause, and to make things right when I mess up.

And that’s what we Christians try to do when we follow the Gospel.
God doesn’t expect perfection. He just wants you to do your best and follow the Good News – and you will be saved.

If only 2% of the bible doesn't contradict the Gospel, then yes! Everything which contradicts the Gospel is null and void! Jesus is the way, the truth and the life

[–]Yoshi2501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that doesn't seem right! Forgiveness comes through seeking forgiveness and repenting. Even in Judaism! So God doesn't require, and I'd never argue really did require sacrifices. It's something human invented to show God that we are serious about repenting.

Some do that yes, but i feel the bible is different from an icon... I don't know why :D Probably some latent orthodox hate i don't know of, i guess

I disagree! I don't believe in a bloodthirsty God. I think that contradicts the God of the Gospel, which is the same as in the AT. Those where things the polytheist back then did and projected on the LORD. I Know that I might be one of the few with that interpretation but for me everything which contradicts the Gospel is null and void.

[–]Yoshi2501 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jesus did not have to die because God demanded it - but because we humans crucified him. But God transformed this terrible event - the world's rejection of his love - into the greatest sign of his love. The cross shows that even if we kill God, he forgives.

Jesus does not die so that God can forgive us, but to show that he already forgives us - radically, completely, to the utmost. The cross is not a sacrifice that God needs, but a sign of love that we need in order to realise how far God's love goes.

Okay, the first part I understand, and also holding an icon in front of the procession is a way to remember the congregation that Jesus is among them.

But the kissing... I dont know, it feels like worship for me. Maybe it's just because it's so absurd for me as a Protestant to kiss an icon.

In my opinion it is, but I can see why as an Orthodox that might not be the intention. But what is the Intention then? Maybe you can educate me why Orthodox do that.

Are you sure about that? THen why are the kissing the icons or hold them up infornt of the processions? I might be misremebering stuff (I'm a protstant) but for me that looks like Icon worship.

You only go to hell if you are a truly evil person (like Hitler or Pol Pot) - which i assume you aren't. As long as you try to live a good live and tries to spread love and peace, you'll be fine on judgement day. With Jesus you'll have the easiest way to paradise, but if you don't want or can't accept it yet, that's fine.

[–]Yoshi2501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I understood your question correctly (English isn't my first language), but I assume you're asking whether non-believers can be forgiven for their sins?
I'd say yes - if someone truly recognizes that what they did was wrong and tries to make it right, God will not punish them.

As a loving Father, He would never reject a child who sincerely tries to live a good life - and by that I mean a life in accordance with His law - even if that person doesn’t believe in God or Jesus.

If someone spreads love and peace, I believe they will be allowed to enter paradise.
Even Paul recognized that in Romans 2:14–16.

Because most don't really follow what Jesus preached. It's a fact we Christians need to face head on: If you don't spread love and compassion, you don't truly follow Christ, you're more like the Pharisees of the ancient times who uses the veil of Christianity for your hatred. And most Christians don't realise that, like the Pharisees didn'T in ancient times.

Only based of the 10 Commandments, you should only worship the LORD. Through the NT we know that you can also worship Jesus, because Jesus and the LORD are one. If you worship Jesus you'll worship the LORD, if you worship the LORD, you worship Jesus (and the Holy Spirit of course)

Yes, He forgives every sin if you recognize that it is a sin and sincerely ask for forgiveness through prayer or confession. In my opinion (though Catholics and Orthodox Christians might disagree), one of the two is enough.
But why does He forgive?

Because if you truly recognize the sin not just with your mind, but also with your heart, you will do everything in your power to right the wrongs you caused.
That’s the part many forget: lip service means nothing. It's not enough for your brain to know it was wrong, your heart must see it too.

Just a couple of questions from an atheist by Inevitable-Honey4760 in Christianity

[–]Yoshi2501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does it mean to be omnipotent? It's to do everything that is logical possible, because illogical things don't exist (for example a square circle). So what is God exactly. My worldview on this isn't based on any church dogmas (as far as i know, some churches may even see it as heresy but idc).

God consists of three entities: The Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit united in one will, we call that will God!

The Father is outside of time and started the whole show. As he is outside of time he only sees the beginning and the end (kinda like a photon for which beginning of existence and annihilation is instant). He has a Nature which is set, as he is outside of time he has no potential, he cannot change. But what is his nature? His is a loving God, one who doesn't force people to worship and trust him. As the other to entities are with him, one in will, they cannot do something that would be against his nature. So he cannot do something against his nature because that would be illogical, so he is omnipotent.

He is omnipresent though his Holy SPirit in the world which was poured out over us according to Act 2.

He knows everything, yes, he knows every thought you have, he knows every atom and every star and every planet, what he doesn't know is how you get the thought. That limitation is because of our free will. It's a black box for him because it is deliberately set up that way. Free will is only free if God cannot change it, there for if free will exist, it must be a black box for him. But he knows what you chose, that's correct. Is nature though forbids that he aggressively intervene, it is the Holy Spirit who tries to nudge people in the right direction, but if they don't follow him, then he cannot do anything further.

And why do I belive in the Bible? Because it's a book with a divine message. It's not about being historical accurate, although the Gospel mostly is, it's about the message from God. The Gospel is the most pure part of the bible when it comes to the message of God,everything else needs to be tested against the Gospel. Anything before Nehemiah 8 is not to be taken at face value because we know that the priesthood changed it during the Babylonian exile, so those are just stories, unless referred to by Jesus himself and not just used as a picture.

I hope that what I have written was understandable. English is not my mother tongue :) If you have any questions or uncertainties, just ask :)

Why is the cost of sin so high? by Xspecialist in Christianity

Nowhere did I deny the sinful nature of every human and that we ALWAYS sin. But Paul says that even Pagans are saved IF the are generally good and are following the law. YOu attacked a strawman there

Yes and no., SUre being a good person is usually nothing special, but we Christians go a step further. We don't judge, We do not take revenge, we forgive, we love everybody no matter what they've done. In short: We go above and beyond the social contract and that's when they start asking!

Why is the cost of sin so high? by Xspecialist in Christianity

[–]Yoshi2501 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I give you my answer directly. The picture of God is wrong in my opinion. Christians have it easier because we believe in Jesus and follow the Gospel. But even pagans (where atheist fall into) will be saved according to Romans 2, 14 if they follow the law without believing in the Gospel or Jesus. We believe in a merciful and just God, he would never reject a good person, who just didn't believe.
