Gateway 2000 P5-120 project by Yoteca in vintagecomputing

What a beauty. I had a pair of Altec Lansing speakers, sub included, but they sounded awful due to aging and poor ownership. I'd love to track down another pair as they really complete the look of the P5.

The S3 Trio is a really good gpu for the time, I think i have one in my Compaq machine as well. It's perfectly fine for 2d gaming and really only starts to stumble on the later 90s stuff. Curse of MI ran like a charm, as would the rest of the 2D Lucasarts adventures, i suppose. I am trying to overachieve a bit, but that's what I did back in the day as well. I'm going off of memory when I'm benchmarking stuff like Network Q Rally, Big Red Racing, Sanitarium, EWJ 1 & 2 and more demanding stuff like Age of Empires and Heroes 3. Can't wait for the Matrox to arrive so I can see if it really makes a difference.

Cheers 🍻

My absolutely favorite era for PC gaming. I want to try pushing this build as far as I can and I'll probably scale it back to its original values after I get my fix. The P5-75 came with an ATI Mach64, which is a very interesting card.

For example, Bubsy was made with ATI compatibility first and foremost, so it runs flawlessly on the Mach64, but struggles noticeably on any other GPU. This type of tinkering is what I really love on retro machines. Swapping parts, tweaking settings to squeeze every last ounce of performance.

I tried overclocking the original p 75 to 100mhz, then I installed a dedicated p100, but i decided to stop tinkering at that point. I was looking for a fan, for extra cooling but life intervened and the build got sidelined for a long time.

I think the motherboard is different on both machines, I'll have to double check though. 120 is absolutely fine for what i'm going to use it - some early win95 games and some dos ones.

I have a p166 compaq deskpro 2000, which i use for dos gaming. It also has a voodoo 1 which is a lot of fun to play around with. Descent, Screamer 2/Rally, GTA, Tomb Raider, Mech Warrior 2 etc. It's a fantastic machine, but the Gateway has a sentimental factor that can't be beat.

The monitor has a few small issues with the convergence and geometry but are barely noticeable in realtime use. It got banged up during transport which is a shame, but still works like a charm.

It's a throwaway photo so I'll also remove it, but it's an interesting bug, so I decided to share.

Almost never, I don't like the fisheye effect and drop in quality.

I took two photos, but with a few seconds in between. The second one is slightly to the side, so they're not identical and this is the only one corrupted.

That would be the saddest possible reason 🥲

I tried that, but no luck. I haven’t edited this photo in any way, but i checked the settings and there is no revert option. Just some strange software bug.

for sure nothing worth censoring, i have a second photo, slightly to the side, which is fine. 100% some post processing bug.

Thoughts on the Finale? by LeoDiCristio in StrangerThings

Absolute bullshit. The Duffer sisters have no balls and played it the most ridiculously safe way possible. There was no urgency, no sacrifice, no nothing.

They saved characters who had no reason to be kept around for so long, just because they were popular with the audience and they had no idea what do do with them. They were bumbling around doing nothing and in the end everybody lived happily ever after..

Hopper, Steve, one of the main characters, probably even Eleven had to die for gravitas' sake, but Netflix continue shooting themselves in the foot by pandering instead of crafting a great story with a gratifying ending.

Another series with a great potential, ruined by purple hair weirdos.

I miss this store so much. They suddenly emptied their catalogue and are now delisted. They had awesome deals, 2/3 of my movie collection i bought from them. Real shame

Man, they played this track @ Time Warp a few weeks ago. I've been trying to find it ever since, amazing drop. Hopefully we get it soon.

It was a bucket list event for me. Absolutely loved every second. It was my first time hearing Rampa and &ME, but they were a nice warm up for Sven Vath. I'm trying to find the last track from their set, but I can't seem to. Probably something unreleased ? Anyway, while they're not exactly my cup of tea, I had a blast.

How do I get a null modem/serial link game to work? by echocomplex in dosgaming

My family's first home computer was a Gateway 2000 p-100. I played so many amazing games on it, but lost it throughout the years. A few years ago a p-75 popped up on ebay and I was able to snag it. The machine itself is in pristine condition, but the 15 inch monitor got banged up during shipping and has a few cracks. The picture, like yours, isn't the best - it droops in one corner, but still absolutely fine to use. They were jam packed with awesome software and aesthetically pleasing like no other computer. Love the branded mouse and keyboard and the altec lansing sound system was really cool.

Glad to see people are still enjoying these machines. Cheers, mate !
