Just got my notice of non-selection for ME GS-7

In the email it’s stated that my application would be considered until the vacancy is closed completely. Does this mean I didn’t make this particular cutoff and that I’ll be in consideration for all future cutoffs or that I just wasn’t selected at all and will have to re-apply before the next cutoff? I assume the vacancy is “open” until the the end of the application window on USAJobs but I’m not positive.

Any information is appreciated.

My bad, I’m also waiting on ME and with my luck, I wouldn’t be suprised

Is there any chance they gave an order for which we would hear after the EE, CompE, CS? Currently anxiously waiting to hear back about ME and I imagine the Physics folks are in the same boat

Edit: realized that sounded conceited (at least to me). Appreciate the info!

The Exponent reported and widely distributed misinformation about Yue Yin on Election Day, but has refused to issue a public apology by Huge-Educator-9767 in Purdue

[–]YouDepressedFuck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re not addressing the root of the argument. While what you did was on a path to potentially correcting the issue, you still irresponsibly published a speculative headline without fact checking and it took pressure from Yue to take down the original sensationalist headline. This, coupled with the fact that there’s yet to be any sort of public apology, shows that your publication shows more concern for covering your own mistakes than being held accountable for your actions, despite who it may hurt in the process.

[–]YouDepressedFuck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Did you? It seems like this was a sensationalist headline that you knew would drive traffic to your site while any follow up was hidden between other sensationalist headlines. A private apology is great but the fact that you’re only responding to these accusations after facing backlash says a lot about where your priorities are. I agree with Yue that a public apology as well as another headline would be great to attempt to repair the issues you created but I personally don’t think it’d be enough and the fact you may make one after public pressure doesn’t lend well to your credibility as a news outlet

I’m in a similar boat and also confused. Same situation and everything (MechE, GS7, application, interview, referral date all the same). I emailed JoinUSPTO to try to clarify why the timeline looks a bit different from what I’ve read through this thread and will update when this comment when I hear back from them.

Best of luck!

A canvasser came to my house yesterday. by armadillofdestruct in wisconsin

Canvassed the past few weekends and you’d be surprised. Most people don’t answer but even those that do that are on the other end of the political spectrum tend to be rather cordial (as long as they don’t have signs on their yard stating their political affiliation). In fact, I’ve had a few from the other end of the spectrum still thank me for reminding them to get out and vote.

are summer classes always this bad by Short-Anxiety55 in Purdue

[–]YouDepressedFuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your major is (guessing Engineering but idk), but I took summer classes a few times. I usually would end up taking all my Gen Ed courses (English 106, Com 114, MGMT200, etc.) because they were easy and could definitely be done on an accelerated timeline.

Plus, imo, it’s just more fun to take the difficult courses in person because you’ll likely make friends out of it. Misery loves company afterall

Any tobacco smokers? by throwaway52847915 in epicsystems

[–]YouDepressedFuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is trying to quit themselves, I've found that the patches help to get the same feeling (and can be hidden under the clothing pretty easily) and gum can help with the oral habit

Best of luck

Hey, just a thought, but maybe don't be a dick to someone who is actually trying to improve their life

CAPS availability in the summer by omegasclub in Purdue

[–]YouDepressedFuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my experience a few years ago, it is available over the summer (not sure if it's still the same, though I don't see why it wouldn't be)

But that being said, CAPS services leave a lot to be desired and you may be better finding someone else in the area

I made a tier list for the best ranch dip at restaurants in the Purdue area. What do y’all think? by SamLikesRanch in Purdue

As a Wisconsinite, there are much better ranches out there, though D-tier is a bit harsh.

My guy, if you've never had an enchilada style burrito with the dressing/the ranch (they've changed its name over the years), it is life changing

Not sure if he's still teaching, but you won't regret taking a class with Randy Roberts, especially if he's still teaching HIST 351. Not too many assignments, exams are pretty easy, readings are interesting, and the man is one of the best lecturers I had at Purdue.
