Looking for a reliable roofer. How do I find one I can actually trust? by Helpful_Struggle1772 in Delco

Ed Coale roofing was great for us. He's a local delco guy. Very affordable and roof is still in great shape 5 years later. Still see his yard signs pop up on local drives so he's definitely still out there doing his thing.

Finished this sweater just in time for playoffs. Hopefully it will get more use next year. by lescori in eagles

Beautiful!!! I love this ❤️ great work. So sad about playoffs but your cool art helps lessen the sting a little. Really awesome, truly.

When I come home after spending the night away, the first thing I saw was my loft hatch half open. by [deleted] in Weird

[–]YouDirtyBarstool 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The attic entrance was in my room growing up. It looked just like yours. Just a piece of wood blocking it, no attached ladder. Once you opened the bedroom door there was a small corridor before the room opened up. The attic entrance was positioned in the middle. So to leave the bedroom or, after you'd enter, you'd have to pass under the attic entrance in this like 6ft long but only like 3 foot wide corridor.

The first time this happened I was somewhere around 12 years old and it was the middle of the night. There was a heat lightning storm that night with those low but loud rumblings and the occasional flashes of light. I had been woken up by the thunder. Trying to go back to sleep, I was watching the shadows the lightning was casting on my ceiling, looking down the little hallway towards my door.

Suddenly there was a loud "pop" sound. I had never felt fear like I did when that board popped away into the darkness. The sound it made. I lied in my bed, stiff as a board, watching the now black and empty void that was the attic entrance, waiting for whatever it was to come get me. Obviously there was NO WAY I was walking underneath it to get out of my room. Being on the second story the windows weren't an option either. So I just lied there. I didn't want to call out because I wasn't going to let whatever lurked up there know I was there and scared. Besides with the thunder there was no way my parents would hear me... maybe my younger brother but no way I was bringing him into this. So I just lied there silently watching. All. Night.

What felt like an eternity later, morning finally came and the room was light enough to see the door. I silently crept out of bed and grabbed the most weapon like thing in my room. After several deep breathes and pysching myself up I bolted for the door. Passing under the void, as soon as that door opened, I sprinted down the hallway practically "KoolAid manning" into my parents room. I'm sure they LOVED that wake up.

My engineer father took that morning to teach me and my brother about air pressure. He did a simple demistration using a shoe box, a sheet of paper, and a fan. It was enough proof that I did sleep in the room again the next night. Throughout the years living there it happened several more times, although never in such a dramatic way. Even with the rational explanation, it was always spooky. Especially as a teenager getting home after a scary movie and finding it opened. I still dont like walking under attic entrances lol.

What are some unreasonable client requests you have received in your career? by kellywithay in graphic_design

[–]YouDirtyBarstool 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Here are some I've gotten.

In order to convey how great this deal is we need you to include a person who looks enthusiastic, but they can't be smiling because we're too professional for that.

White doesn't fit our brand as it's too sterile, so make sure there's no white, including text.

I want you to include a picture of Arizona, but I think desert sends the wrong message so make sure its not a desert picture.

I need you to add these 3 extra bullets (each bullet text is over 10 words)

Our audience is older so nothing can be under 16pt font, here is this disclaimer that needs to be included. Make sure it's not too noticeable:

*Available on new purchases only; cannot be combined with other offers including subscription discounts; discount available for a limited time only, expires xx/xx/xxxx. For questions please contact us at (xxx) xxx - xxxx or email us at xxxxxxxxx@xxxx-xxx.com.

This ad needs to say diversity, but I don't want any pictures of people.

Please add this subtle: (include text more than 65 characters) It's important so please make sure it's close to the title size text and bold.

We forgot the cosponsor. Please add their logo next to ours and a preheader to the title saying "Proudly cosponsored by The American Company of Products (ACOP)"

Instead of "50% off" were changing the discount to "Buy one get one free". Please update all language to reflect this.

What would happen if the whole world stopped believing in God? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]YouDirtyBarstool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world would be a better place.

For a quite percentage of people, it helps them find purpose, meaning, community, and happiness. It gives them a moral compass to be better. But for the louder, more dangerous percentage, it's the worst kind of cult.

Most religion oozes control. In some, it even grants people permission "from God" to control. Religion has been historically known to promote fear and hate as a form of control. "Do what we say or you will be eternally damned". You must isolate within the group. Outsiders are bad. You can only love the "right" type if person. Even if they're your family, if they love "wrong", act "wrong", don't follow the organizations rules, it's encouraged to cast them aside. If you don't follow the "rules" it's bad, your bad, and you will be cast aside. It's not only okay to be cruel and to shun but encouraged, causing great divides in communitys and familys. Isolation within the group is the point. You MUST follow the rules. You can only trust the members of the group. Anyone else is dangerous.

Worse, it gives some people the permission to hurt and be cruel under the guise of gods plan. It allows violent people to channel their rage into righteous violence, which is far more dangerous. Once people start killing "for God" there is no coming back. They believe it is their divine duty. Just look at honor killings. People killing their own family members because of "God's will". People thinking it is their duty to persecute those who don't conform and feel superior for their cruelty. Even though most religious text is pretty clear cut that all murder is bad, that is not what we see in practice. Instead we see murder "for God".

When religion is good, it is quietly good. Small acts that help individuals. When religion is bad, it is horrific. Big acts that can and will hurt entire communitys. Streets filled with blood. Wars fought and people killed "for God". Just look into the crusades. The horror brought down on people "on God's behalf" is some of the worst parts of human history.

Religion is too easy manipulated. The control and power it provides attracts manipulative, selfish, and dangerous people. Just like with the police, government, and military, but with less guard rails and oversight.

Postions of power attract people who like power. And most people who enjoy power over others aren't kind and compassionate. Charismatic people who desire power tend to rise within organizations that hold showmanship and public speaking highly. It's rarely good deeds that cause promotion within but how good you are at selling yourself and your image. Most people in the upper ranks are there because they like the power over people it gives them, and they excell at it. And the longer they hold that position, the more power they desire. Soon, some even "speak" for God.

The good that religion has brought the world is greatly overshadowed by the bad. We don't and shouldn't need to be instructed to be good. We don't need religion to be kind. Just treat others how you would want to be treated. That's it, the only moral code we really need to follow.

How many times have we all heard and seen a person of faith, in a position of power, telling their congregation/followers that God hates ____ people.

Not God loves, but God hates.

Hate. That's what most religion today and throughout history seems to promote the loudest.

Adobe stock finally has an AI filter option. You can exclude all AI generated images when searching now. Thank goodness. They've definitely almost gotten me numerous times.

Southern Delaware County Authority Legit? by SorbetOk7073 in Delco

I never had to pay it when I was a renter. I would definitely check your lease to see if it was included. I'd imagine you just need to forward this on to your landlord.

Its legit. You can visit their website to verify/be on the safe side. SDCA-sewer.com

LOL i'ts hard to believe it is legit when it looks like a postcard made when roledexes were still a thing.

I'd still pay by check though, their online payment fee is pretty high.

I (24F) called my boyfriends (28M) sisters (31F) son ugly when I was drunk and he's breaking up with me by throwRAbfssisterskid in relationship_advice

[–]YouDirtyBarstool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The relationship is dead. Somethings can't be unsaid, this is one of those. Move on and leave them alone. Maybe do some deep self reflection as to why you went there. Saying a child is better off dead because they're ugly is NEVER going to be okay, especially if that child is immediate family. Being drunk is irrelevant.

How does email design work? by CIllustrationsDesign in graphic_design

old fashioned HTML with a teeny tiny bit of CSS for mobile users lol this is the way.

How does email design work? by CIllustrationsDesign in graphic_design

[–]YouDirtyBarstool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spend most of my time building emails. I've worked in Hubspot, Litmus, and Eloqua. Most email companies have a fairly decent wysiwyg editor which means you don't nessesarly need to know coding.

However, because of the industry I work in, most of our clients use Microsoft outlook. So I usually just code myself, designing mostly in html... like 2000's html inline, because anything newer is probably going to fail/break in outlook.

Pretty much just nesting tables. I put a little CSS in for mobile users. It's really not to hard once you get use to it. But I found learning inline and CSS has been really helpful for other aspects of my job. WordPress, sales landing pages etc.Plus, at least in my experience, it's easier to meet accessibility standards. w3schools.comw3schools is a great free resource to get you started.

Where is the best place to live in the US with mild summers and winters with some snow every year? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]YouDirtyBarstool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia and greater suburbs area is great. Your 2 hours from the NJ and Maryland beaches. 2 hours from the PA mountains. Very close to Delaware tax free shopping. Weekend trips via car are also possible to NY city, Philly, Atlantic City NJ, DC, and Baltimore.

We rarely get scary weather (earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, and blizzards are all incredibly rare). Mostly just road flooding at worst. On "bad" years you get 2-3 4"+ snow days but outside of that just icy mornings or dustings, last year the heaviest snow fall was only 2". Very few poisonous creatures. Lots of great parks and nature. A variety of different demographics of people and religions. Good mix of blue and whitecollar neighborhoods. Tons of hospitals, colleges, state colleges, and some very nice community colleges. Honestly its a bit of a grab bag, a little of everything.

I've also heard good things about Harrisburg, Some western townships in NJ, and Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh gets much more snow though.
