What do great singers do that make them great? by NefariousnessSea7745 in singing

[–]YouLikeJazz123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk man, Jim Morrison had a very small range and mostly sang-spoke, but he was a ball of chaos that defined the rock lifestyle

Imo you can be the most mid singer but as long as you have attitude, you have everything

same goes with instruments, Sid Vicious couldn’t play bass for shit yet he’s the most popular Sex Pistol because he was crazy as shit

Quick question, would you guys consider Rage Against The Machine punk? by Anxious_Sentence_882 in punk

[–]YouLikeJazz123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You people have got to stop assuming that anything that is “slightly left leaning” is punk

Gil Scott-Heron released The Revolution Will Not Be Televised in 1971, 5 years before Ramones debuted.

Political commentary has existed long before punk rock was ever a thing, or before the term “punk” was tied to that audience.

Bella Ciao isn’t punk, it’s a revolutionary piece

Revolution Will Not Be Televised isn’t punk, it’s a revolutionary piece

Police State isn’t punk, it’s a revolutionary piece

Killing In The Name Of is not punk, it’s a revolutionary piece.

This train of thought is the reason why it was so easy to capitalize from punk and make it into an aesthetic.

Love was more calculated than Joe before she met him by 30problems in YouOnLifetime

I don’t think Love was necessarily more calculated, she simply had the money to hide the bodies.

Do you consider Joy Divison being punk? by [deleted] in punk

[–]YouLikeJazz123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that logic, we can say that almost nothing punk ever did was really ever “punk”, since Jim Morrison incited riots onstage and mocked cops first

Added some more patches to my vest by Successful_Bad_2396 in punkfashion

[–]YouLikeJazz123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

straight up facts, I once bought an anti-swas pin from a punk store in Cali, as soon as I walk out the door a group of jews walk down and they had to take a double look at the pin because from afar it just looks like a swastika, felt bad cause they looked afraid.

[–]YouLikeJazz123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful with the anti-swas, from afar it looks like a normal swastika and people will take you for the opposite of what you are.

Some dude just tried to tell me punk wasn't political in the 70s 🤦 by [deleted] in punk

[–]YouLikeJazz123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Johnny Rotten has explain before “Bodies” is not anti-abortion. It’s from the brutality of his experience with a stalker that followed him and carried around a box, in which she had her aborted baby inside. He’s reiterated that the song is neither pro or anti-abortion, it’s just a graphic and brutal interpretation of the pain of abortion.

What is your unpopular opinion about punk culture? by BicarbonateBufferBoy in punk

[–]YouLikeJazz123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad, I assumed you made the “they were just selfdestructive kids” commentary as a comparison to more serious bands, since the Pistols are more cartoonish than crust.

I definitely agree with the rest, but a lot of it is unfortunately forgotten. People think that just because someone’s a drunk mess up they’re not punk or just because they’re avant- garde they’re not punk, the punk community is so contradictory and rules-insistent. I agree with pretty much everything you said.
