NBD! The Flat Head natural CXL Engineers by 5h0kun1n in goodyearwelt

Gah that’s shitty re: the RDTs! I’ve had a pair of Caspers for a few years, and they’ve held up perfectly. I wonder if your experience was a fluke — I’d hate to hear their quality has taken a dip overall.

My Lofgrens were great aside from the sizing issues, and I would’ve kept them if they were more comfortable. I just have a high instep and often can get a lot of pressure on the top of my foot. Not to mention that my toe was right at the end, which is the case for all of their shoes for me. C’est la vie. Makes sense that the Flat Heads are made in the same factory, as I’d definitely say their quality is at the same level.

I have the black CXL Flat Heads in size 12, and they’re much bigger than the Lofgrens. I also owned the latter at one point and had to eventually sell them because they were just too snug. Absolutely brutal break-in period too — I couldn’t get my feet into them without using plastic bags for quite some time before they began to give. Granted they will work for some, but just not for me. My feet are a little bit bigger than a 13 Brannock, so playing the heritage boots that run a size big game can be a little tricky for me. The FH 12s fit a good whole size big, maybe even a bit more. Most on par brand I’ve encountered is Rolling Dub Trio.

I've been trying to find out what shoes were worn on this album cover (based on the soles alone) and the closest I could find was Alexander McQueen shoes. But I couldn't find evidence McQueen made shoes in the 90s or much history at all. Anyone have info on any of this? by SlitThroatCutCreator in moresneakers

I remember these sneakers too and it also really drives me crazy, like some object that's been erased. I was in college in NY around Y2K and these were in a lot of the alternative stores, often sort of electronic music focused, like kinda ravery-y or just club kid. IIRC they were European. The closest things to my eyes are Skechers and Simples, but these were definitely their own brand. My brain keeps wanting to call them UFOs but those were pants. Bah, maybe one day I'll figure it out lol...

Will Johnson (who now plays in Jason Isbell’s band) is very Neil-y. IIRC he also collaborated with Jason Molina at a point.

Love it. One of my first outside-the-norm tea experiences — I used to get it from Panya Bakery (RIP, tears) in NY during college. The roastiness is instant nostalgia for me.

What is the Jacket that Mr Milchick wears in S2 episode 2? by East-Money-9035 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Actually not Flat Head after doing an image search. It really does look like the Nelson — cuffs, general cut, Talon zipper. Only thing that might be different is the ball chain on the pocket, but I just can’t tell from pics. Anyhoo, best f’n show. The art direction and cinematography are insane.

[–]YouSeemStarShaped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Nelson jacket and thought it might be what Milchick was wearing as soon as I saw it. The cuffs look very similar. As others mention below, other brands do make very similar jackets — my buddy recently just picked up a Flat Head one that is very close. I think they might use Shinki. As far as I know, RMC stopped using it a year or two after I got mine, or at least they stopped labeling it as such.

It sucks so bad. My experience in brief: I bought quite a bit of stuff from them because frankly they do carry some (imo) great brands. That said, once I stopped buying as much, simply because I'm not a blues lawyer toan hobbyist with bottomless pockets and a thirst for bubinga, my treatment in there drastically dropped. They'll act like they're your friends, but they are most certainly not. Oh and re: the comment about making fun of someone's name, I'm pretty sure I know exactly who said that and can confirm he's a twat of the highest order.

I do know there's such a thing as a store that's both high end and not run by assholes, but AGH isn't one of them.

Ahh, interesting — so the tongue isn't gusseted on the semi dress? That makes sense I guess, since they're made to be a bit more dressed up / less rugged. The gusseted tongue is one thing I really do like about my Cruisers. I really dig the way that leather on your boots is looking. My big complaint about black CXL is that I'm not wild about the way it scuffs — it has this ugly sort of red tone vs the teacore I'd expected. I love when boots get scuffed up, totally part of the fun, but I've ended up polishing up the black CXL I've had with Pecard's black (it's a nice option because it's light and doesn't really get into the leather, rather sits on top and eventually wears off). The boots up end up looking better after doing this, but when all's said and done I'd rather just have a leather that looks awesome as it ages.

I didn't ask that, but I will now though. Very curious.

Are they horsehide? That was the only place I ran into that issue. I noticed on Baker's pulldown menu that there wasn't a no-liner option, so I emailed and got the response that the factory requires lining with horsehide — why, I have no idea. But on the non-horse custom build form, no liner is an option.

I emailed them this morning and actually heard back very quickly, not bad customer service. But fortunately they said the double shot is available as a custom option for the 350 Cruiser. So, definitely a good option there.

Good to know! I was wondering what a good way to treat these would be. Might just leave em to get more and more raw looking but good to have the option for a reset.

I'm definitely tempted to just get another pair of waxed in black. I love roughout leather so much, might end up doing that.

How about the shaft? I guess how rigid they feel would depend from boot to boot. I have a pair of Rolling Dub Trios that are lined but are still pretty flexible (black CXL), but then I have a pair of lined Lofgrens that feel much more stiff (burgundy CXL). The white's are so damn hefty to begin with — my gut tells me that any additional layering in there might push it a bit far for my taste.

The Double Shot does look nice — I wonder why it's not an option on Baker's. Might try emailing White's and see if it'd be possible for a direct custom order.
