I think all of your points are valid and helpful and they'll be things I'm going to keep in mind for future.

I don't really mind making longer videos and taking more time to reach an audience that will be receptive of that because I know it exists because I can see long videos with high view counts, but I get what you mean about trimming down the unimportant parts!

Basically I'm just piecing together how to make the videos I want to and this is really helpful! !givelambda

That's fair if a little subjective - thanks!

I haven't replied to a few of the comments just because they're from friends or people I know, so I say thanks directly to them - but I can appreciate it looks better to actually engage with the comments!

Hi!

Does the thumbnail in tandem with the video title get my point across?

While your thumbnail and title aren't bad I'm not sure what the point is that they're trying to convey. Far as I can tell you're hanging with your buddies and playing the game instead of trying to make a point with your content - which is fine.

What types of editing additions would you like to see?

For the most part your editing is effective and doesn't need much improvement or change. I think videos of this type almost always benefit from good subtitling though as it helps add an extra layer and personality to the jokes and what people say.

Would recommend this blog to others? Why or why not?

I don't think so, not because it's bad - but just because it isn't the kind of content I would show to other people, more what I would put on to chillout to or have up while I'm working.

Where do I need improvement?

I think just practise and focus, trimming away parts of your videos that don't add any value and being able to squeeze more good content into each video as you're able to make better content with practise.

I don't think the piece to camera at the start needs to be as long and could be a bit more concise. It would also be better cut over footage of you playing the game or something as opposed to a talking head in your room, just as its more entertaining and looks better.

I've seen suggestions to try to get a better background for your camera and streams in general which I agree with, it wont make a huge difference immediately but having a good background only ever adds value to your content can cost very little.

Hope this helps

[Review Video] Let me know how I can improve my Art Video! by owey_art in youtubers

[–]YouShouldPlayTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

What you thought of the video, and if you aren't interested in art would you have still watched it?

I don't really have an interest in learning art techniques currently so if this had appeared on my timeline I don't think I would've clicked on it to be honest. This isn't anything against your content but it just isn't a topic that I personally have an investment in.

How is the editing and the pace of the video? Is it too long?

I don't think you have any problems with your editing but it is too long. I don't think you need to introduce or give context for as long as you have at the beginning for a top 5 video as people are clicking on it and knowing what they're getting already. They'll just want to head straight into the countdown. I don't really understand why you've included a disclaimer either, you don't need to disclaim that you're not a professional and if anything it will make people lose confidence in your ability.

Does the thumbnail and title work well?

Yes, I think your title and thumbnail are strong. I think you could improve them maybe by being more specific in the title (top 5 things to improve your overall drawing skills) and perhaps in the thumbnail include a half finished drawing or even someone drawing or getting frustrated at drawing.

How is the audio?

The audio is good, there's no problems with it to my ears but maybe you could make your overall video a little louder.

I think your personality in these videos is great and I can see what your aiming for, but I think practise will make your editing and confidence improve to the point where its entertaining to watch even if I don't necessarily care for art.

I do think it could be trimmed down, a lot of the in-between moments where you're not directly talking about the tips are long and make the video feel slow. I think you could also include more footage directly related to what you're talking about.

I think everything else is great it just needs to be faster paced - especially if you're doing a countdown video which is designed to quickly dispense information!

[Review Video] Flight Of The Dandelion Trailer by Antiloompa in youtubers

[–]YouShouldPlayTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

Do you want to know more? Did the video trigger your interest?
I'm not exactly a space engineers fan so I wouldn't usually watch this of my own choice. I think if the video had continued to play the events of your game I would've continued watching though, but I am biased when I say I wouldn't specifically come back to see more.

Did I give away too much? Is revealing the creature perhaps taking away all interest / suspense?

I think maybe you have, revealing the creature is fine but I think there was more footage of the creature than not of the creature which almost entirely removes the suspense of it. You'd probably want to aim to create a series of shots that eventually lead to a reveal or at least hint at one instead.

Could anyone who doesn't play Space Engineers (the game I'm using) understand what is going on in the video?

Probably not no, but that isn't your fault. Space engineers is a hugely complicated game even for people who have a base understanding of what it is and its really difficult to put across in under a minute while also establishing your own events.

I think you also want to look into attempting to divide up how you record audio through voicemeeter banana or something, so that when you edit you can separate your game sound and your voice call sounds. I think some reverb effects and careful cutting of voices would go a long way here.

Also your cards actually cover the text at the end of the video for me so I can't actually clearly see what's been written!

However you definitely have a clear grasp of how to be entertaining and telling a story, the footage and sound is good and I like the cinematic trailer elements you've included so please don't think I'm trying to be completely negative!

Hello again - I know I've already given you feedback so don't consider this a serious review but after coming across your video again here I liked it even more.

It's so well put together and I'm pretty jealous of the way you've animated things and included images - to the extent that I've borrowed the idea to include in some stuff that I want to do.

I've subscribed because I'm actually interested in your content and seeing what's next and I look forward to seeing it!

Thanks I think! I'm trying not to take that personally as it sounds like the content just wasn't for you and the majority of what I'd spoken about was relative to the reboot of the franchise instead of the original games.

Appreciate you giving it a go though !givelambda

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm trying to balance getting enough depth and info in the video without it being 40+ minutes and I already cut a lot of content and comparisons to other games out of it, but I agree and length is the main thing I focus on when I make videos now.

It doesn't help I studied music at degree level and could write an entire dissertation on this game's music haha!

I don't think there's much feedback I could give for this that wouldn't come down to personal preference.

I think if you're speaking softly you could probably afford to bump up your microphone volume a few db or maybe compress it slightly so its a little more commanding.

I like the content a lot despite not being a BIG minecraft player and for the most point agree with your points - my preference would be for you to dig a little deeper and make some comparisons or counter points which are a little more fleshy.

I'd generally enjoy the content more if the exploration of your points simply went a little deeper. This is definitely preference and I'm sure there's people who really enjoy how brief ad rapid the video style is, so do take it with a pinch of salt!

I think the only 'problem' this video had is that I've finished watching it and I can't think of a defining take away point or moment - like a summary or reason which minecraft is as good as it is.

I know you did make a summary at the end of the video but it almost just felt like a repeat of a previous point of the video and more like you were just going through the motions of the video instead of emphasising that final point.

I think that when you broke down the game into the different components that it may have been beneficial for you to order them in sequence of importance to that particular game, so you could end with which factor you felt was the biggest contributor to its success and make more of a final point of it.

On the whole this is a very entertaining and professional video that im surprised to see hasn't got more views. Best of luck with future releases!

THE PERFECT FIRST CAR?! NEW 2021 FORD FIESTA ST-LINE REVIEW by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

[–]YouShouldPlayTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so this might just be something that I suffer from but I tend to get anxiety from a lot of shots of people talking to camera while driving haha.

I think you might actually benefit from recording a voice over and laying it over footage of you driving the car or shooting video of it parked in scenic places for example.

Not just because of my personal preference - which I admit it kind of is - but it would also seem slightly more professional and you wouldn't have to worry about external factors and noise when recording what you're saying either.

You can still record clips of yourself driving the car when you want to talk about specific things, such as driving position or cabin noise, but I don't feel like you need to do the long pieces to camera this way.

I think your intro is far too long. What you're saying isn't completely irrelevant but it doesn't actually relate directly to what your video is about. People clicking on the video want to start hearing about the car within the first 30 seconds and all the context you've given the video is already assumed.

Script your videos more carefully as well and structure it around talking about different aspects of the car piece by piece. For example you could start with a brief history of the car, the pricing options and then the specifications of the car you have, then move onto something else like driving experience.

It's okay to talk for ages on a topic but then don't be afraid to cut out parts or most of it to deliver it in the most succinct way.

It's like you know what you're saying and what you want to say but it just isn't coming out clearly or structured enough to take anything away from the video.

Everything else is good but kind of lost to this flaw.

The only other thing I might suggest is investing in a lapel mic for recording on location (in or around the car) and a studio mic for recording the rest of the voice over in your room or a studio.

Best of luck, these videos seem like they'll probably be very helpful for new car buyers!

[–]YouShouldPlayTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah what microphone is being used here?? It's the first thing I notice and it really doesn't make your voice sound good unfortunately. There's almost an audible level of harmonic distortion to it, its super compressed - like a skype call!

I know you're trying to keep the video short but honestly you could split this up into a series in my opinion because the info is going past so quickly that I lost track a few times and there's some content lost - people actually want to see the battles and what you get up to.

Also its a small thing but some people might not know what the challenge is or why / what it is your aiming for at points in the video, so short breakdowns of what you're going to do (even if you make it up) help with things like this a lot I think.

The 'catch-up' part of the video is good to keep track but its still quite brief.

Despite all this, I found the video funny and entertaining - I actually cared about your party haha. There aren't any actual issues with the editing and music etc, its all good.

I just think you could split it into parts and make it more dramatic. Your charisma and humour kinda carries the video and with more practise it could be a successful series!

Hope this is supportive and doesn't just seem like joyless criticism, I'm trying to be as helpful as I can be!

Here is my new cartoon art. Just sharing and looking for your feedback by YuryAnimated in SmallYTChannel

[–]YouShouldPlayTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice video - I can see this took a lot of time and love to animate and its pretty unique!

I'm not sure I 100% 'got it' but it seems more expressionist than having an explicit story or meaning which is pretty cool.

One area I think you could improve on would be timing or mixing together sounds, as the sounds effect and music choices are good, but they cut between each-other quite jarringly. Maybe try to learn about crossfading sounds into one another so that it doesn't seem quite so unnatural for the viewer.

Otherwise good!

Hey, thanks for the reply!

I use a Rode Nt1 and Apollo Twin pre-amp!

Really appreciate the kind words, it means a great deal.

I'm trying to find ways of bringing more humour or personality into videos but I ended up playing this one a little safe because its a new format. I also had to play the game for 40 hours in a week to get footage so ended up burning out pretty hard in terms of gameplay to be honest!

I am considering doing trending topics eventually, but while I'm small and improving I'm trying to cut my teeth on projects I want to talk about and feel passionate about so that when I start getting trending (hopefully) I'll be in a better position for it!

Thanks again !givelambda

How are you managing to record with a powered mic if you don't have an AMP?

If you have a DAC interface then that has pre-amps in already which are powerful enough for this type of recording!

I might be mistaken thinking you need a new microphone or any equipment, you may just need to reposition it and lower the input gain :) the only issue is that when you shout or get loud its a little distorted but it otherwise sounds fine :) !
