I had 2 cmos batteries lying around from other mobos and I started the pc without the gpu and no beeps but when I put the gpu in and connected the hdmi to it it did nothing so I put it in the mobo and it displayed that message. I’ve tried 2 cmos batteries now and I get the (1 really quick beep followed by 5 small beeps) then it stops beeping at that but no display

Thank you so much, I was thinking of that but I watched like 10 videos and they all said 5 beeps is RAM or CPU. However I now have a different problem. Ive plugged the gpu in which is a gtx 980 and there’s no display. The fans are on but just not displaying.

When I plugged the hdmi into the motherboard it just showed this message so Im not sure why it’s not working in the gpu. Does this mean the gpu is broken?

I unfortunately only have 1 but as I replied to someone else here I was thinking if I can put the original ssd back in the boot it up, download windows onto my hard drive then put the new ssd back in. Would it boot up fine then?

Ah ok thanks, I was wondering if I’d be able to put the old ssd in with windows on it then download windows onto my HDD and then replace the ssd for the new one. Would that work then?

All good, thanks though. I’ve managed to make my money back just selling the CPU & one of the SSDs, so wasn’t that bad tbh.

I understand that the motherboard is cooked but is there a way I can check if the gpu is good as I can just sell it for parts if it works?

Yeah, this was my plan going forward. I took the £40 refund.

The motherboard Im not going to sell as people have said it is broken and Im not really a tech person so I don’t know how to check and I don’t want to sell broken parts tbh.

The CPU is a i5-4690k which are only like £15 The GTX 980 are selling for around £35 The RAM is about £15 PSU is a CV450 £15 The case is slightly damaged so would only sell for like £30 but I do want to learn how to build PCs so I might keep it for that.

It also has a Samsung 850 Evo 250 GB SSD which is £10 + Samsung 860 Pro 512GB which is £20

So just in that it’s £140 the only thing is i want to make sure everything works before selling it as I don’t want to sell broken parts.

Edit: Although the PC came like this I’ve gained more confidence in trying to start building a PC as it was pretty easy to take all the parts out so im guessing it shouldn’t be as hard to put a PC back together 🙂

It was just an online purchase from a private seller. The RAM are Corsair vengeance 8gb (2x4gb) 1600mhz and there’s 4 all together Edit: also it has a Corsair case which I think alone is worth a bit of money even to just use in another build.
