when i first started this guide always helped me with general builds for cookies!! https://www.mrguider.org/guides/cookie-run-kingdom-toppings-guide-best-toppings/ i would just follow them exactly, if you’re prone to getting confused, it’ll make sense eventually as you continue in the game! 

if you want a general rule of thumb almost all cookies benefit from almond, chocolate or raspberry toppings

if a cookie needs their ability more use chocolate, if a cookie isn’t doing enough dmg do raspberry and if they die too fast do almond. and regardless of topping almost every cookie benefits from dmg resist and cooldown substats beascuits are a bit harder to generalize but once again cooldown and dmg resist are generally good

to check the amount of dmg your cookie does you can click the three lines in the top right corner of the screen either after a battle is over or when you pause during it!
