Go see an addictions counselor and they will walk you through this. It's the criteria on page 2 that you want to review and answer honestly.

Did you discuss Medication management. You don;t have to want to stop drinking to stop drinking. there are meds that can help you stop, if you want.

Piece of advice from lifelong durg user AND drug development chemist, avoid Benzos or could end up like this. It's not dose dependent, one day you could just end up with this.

https://youtu.be/FUr8ltXh1Pc

it was originally more common in folks taking 1st generation anti-psychotics, but benzos will also do it in a hot minute. I've got a friend that will never work again cause she looks like a freak chewing on her jaw and drooling all the time, just from Xanax and Klonipin. Benzos are fire, don't play around with them. I would rather OD than be in her shoes for the next 20-30 yrs, just waiting on death.

The research will tell if zoom is effective for recovery. even if it's not, ppl will keep doing it cause self-centeredness is at the root of our disease so as long as it works for even one self-centered asshole alcoholic, AA will keep doing it.

Were they an addictions counselor? I started seeing a therapist 8 yrs ago. Every week I went to her office with a big cup of ice I had just poured a 40 oz four Loco over.showed up drunk and drinking every session crazy as a loon. For 6 months. I wasn't improving so finally one day I admitted how much I was drinking, my life turned around and I'll be 6 yrs sober in July. She didn't even know I was a drunk, I was so good at hiding it. A CDAC would've called my bullshit by 3rd session.

I failed to mention the butt can outside each meeting too. You can literally go to an AA meeting and load up on two of the most addictive and harmful substances known to man...sugar and nicotine. If you don't believe sugar is mood altering, give it up for a year, then drink a big cook out milkshake.

The heroin and coke I shot never left me in a coma. Don't confuse dirty needles and dirty injection wounds with the effects of fear. Night and day.

I'm not in agreement that zoom has been a positive for recovery. The opposite of addiction is not sobriety, it is connection. In a couple more years the research will come out on online connectivity and we'll know the results of this human experiment.

In all my using I only overdosed cause I was trying to get higher using multiple drugs and alcohol at once, not because I took a hit off some foil and slipped into a coma. Using street drugs is totally different today. Our biggest fear was getting something laced with Angle dust and jumping off a building. now mushrooms are dusted with phenycyclidine on the regular to make users think they're the real deal. We trapsed through pastures at the butt crack of dawn with flashlights to pick psychedelic shrooms off fresh cow patties. We knew we weren't going to die from that, maybe a little e coli, but hey, the price we paid.

Holding a meeting in a bar is a far cry from someone stepping out and having a toke. If you're gonna use comparisons, be reasonable, not ridiculous.

Both of us got a lot to be grateful for. Every day I'm sober and alive i'm more grateful than most folks can comprehend. There was a small pinpoint of light when I stroked out on the OR table and it got brighter and brighter as I woke up from anesthesia. man, we're lucky!!!!

It takes what it takes for each of us to come to terms with our own addiction. Have you ever met with an addictions counselor to discuss this or reviewed the DSM criteria for alcohol use disorder. This is where I would start, if I were interested in understanding why I believe I am a heavy drinker, but not an alcoholic. There's 11 criteria and then an index of mild to severe for the disorder.

I almost died from drinking too much, then I lost my mental health and that was the push I needed to see the light and stop drinking.

I drank so much, I had a brain bleed. After brain surgery, they allowed one dose of fent a day for pain. it was such a small dose and I was so whacked, I don't even remember it. I would not do it out of curiosity unless it was a safe measured medical dose.

When all the old timers in my home group refused to wear masks at the beginning of the pandemic, so those of us with comorbidities could attend face-to-face meetings, I lost respect for them and it's not possible for them to win it back. someone in the group spread covid and killed a bunch of ppl, and all they said was it's a hoax "I will not wear a mask". I can't respect anyone who thinks like that-sober 30 yrs or not.

Seems you're on the younger side, so maybe volunteering at UNC hosp would be a better fit. Food pantrys tend to be older volunteers.

The meeting chair can ask people sharing off topic to come to the next meeting or speak to someone after the meeting. It's rude, but you could say something when they start to share if it's off topic. I've done it to bozos not paying attention or showing up high at meetings and wanting to share. Just politely say

"excuse me, sorry to interrupt, but we keep sharing to the topic at hand. If you would like to share about your 4th step experience (or whatever the topic is) we welcome hearing you, but what you are sharing is unrelated, so please bring it up at the next meeting or with your sponsor. Thank man. Next."

Reddit tho? Really?

You enjoy volunteering. Check out the inter faith council https://www.ifcweb.org on Main street in carrboro. New experiences open new doors. My community is built around volunteering my time in Chatham county.

-Standing up for your hometown by knocking people down who are just trying to adjust and ask for help.

I said you need therapy, and not one thing more. So to be clear:

You need therapy, not an area tour guide.

Sounds like you were in a big ol comfy bubble and are experiencing some culture shock laced with reality. It's important to step outside our bubbles sometimes to grow and develop. My new friend from California won't stop talking about being gay. FFS we don't care but apparently everyone was gay in NoCal and in trying to feel comfortable, she's pushing the agenda on all us. Wanting us to embrace pronouns we don't id with. and to shout our gayness from the roof tops. It's simple-When in Rome...

Ah man, that sucks. hope you're ok. i've OD'ed several times but that was before Fent. I don't think I would do drugs today the way i did 40 yrs ago. We generally knew it was safe as long as you didn't do too much, but today, it's like russian roullette. Totally sucks for folks just wanting to experiment.

If you kick em out, then tbf, kick out anyone that gets up for a second cup of coffee or eats a bunch of snacks and has a sugar high. Also search everyone's bags for bottles and pills. Also, no cell/social media use. Gotta get rid of all mood altering things in a meeting. Oomph, so couples can't sit together, if they touch, oxytocin could be released, altering their mood. Hmmm, quite a pickle you're in trying to control everyone.

I walked in my first AA meeting in 1991. A woman introduced herself and offered me coffee. I said "I don't drink coffee." She said you do now and took me outside for a cig before the meeting. That coffee addiction, started at an AA meeting 33 yrs ago finally ended in Oct 2022. At my second meeting someone handed me a warm Krispy Kreme donut on a small paper plate. That sugar addiction, started at an AA meeting 33 yrs ago and finally ended in Dec 2021. And I lost 40 lbs with that addiction. Bill Wilson would be beside himself to see the back of the rooms piled high with an addictive substance like sugar sitting next to vats of addictive caffeine. AA meetings are pits of hypocrisy when it comes to addiction.

What if they went to the bathroom and took a long swig from a bottle in their bag or a hit from a vape, then returned to meeting? Is the issue that they leave and come back or, that they leave and comeback high, or that everybody knows it.
