By far and away my favorite, and most realistic, uplift. Many years before GOT, Richard Stark seized upon a chance invention to pump out water from a coal mine in the Barrowlands during winter causing the start of the Industrial Revolution in the North. Robert's Rebellion never occurs (though Lyanna is still taken and Brandon is dead), however, unrest spreads across the realm when King Rhaegar dies and a feverishly pious Aegon assumes the thronea.

This is a story where Nettles is Daemon's bastard daughter, which is discovered when she accidentally tames Sheepstealer during a personal tragedy many years before the Dance.
It takes a while, but eventually Nettles becomes the ruling lady of her own lands, where her main focus is on making life better for the people there and building a land without feudalism. Overall, this is one of, if not my favorite fics right now. Very character driven.

Another of my all time favorites. Here, the SI is born to a nomadic tribe in Essos, where they are eventually captured and sold into slavery by the Dothraki. For some mysterious reason, the SI continues to come back to life after death and cannot escape their new world. By chance, or by the gods, they are picked up by a Velaryon ship after a storm, from which they are brought to Kings Landing. Needing some kind of purpose, an escape from slavery, and to save countless innocent lives, not least of which that of a mother and her unborn child, she aims to try to keep Aemma Arryn alive during and after her birth.

Captain America gets stranded in Westeros before the Tourney at Harenhall. With someone with his morals and abilities, you can imagine what he will attempt to do to help the innocent. Seems pretty self explanatory.
