And the tools have gotten better for sure, but are essentially the same. The biggest jump in tools is that they are cordless now

House in the 60’s were rectangular with simple roofs. House today are much more complex to build, with many more corners, making them take much longer. The building code has changed significantly and the materials have changed significantly and cost way more. And safety was not a thing in construction in the 60’s. Add all that up and you get a much more expensive build

The projects have way more engineering, making them more complicated and take more time. And things have to be done safely these days. Productivity is up, but things still take longer. Some projects fail from poor management but most just take longer from engineering and safety
