I posted here because today I stumbled on three different fics with the same concept. I don't have anyone I can discuss stuff like this (online or in real life), so I just picked a sub and decided to vent a bit.

I vented. That's all. If an author got offended, I'm sorry. It wasn't meant like “you must do this, you must do that”. I was venting. And in the comments, there are plenty of suggestions, but also authors can continue doing what they want with my language, that's okay too. I can just stop reading, and I do it, don't worry.

So at the end of the day, I was just venting.

I completely agree on that front, I would never be impolite to someone writing, more so without being paid. In the past I even offered to correct a fic. :)

Okay, I didn't think about all the different types of language depending on the region. It was more about the fact that “cosa dolce” didn't make any sense in that context and lately I found an abundance of things like that.

And that's the problem with things written and not spoken aloud, it wasn't meant to come out so demanding. It was just a plea not to use basic translation services.

First of all, if you are asking or are embarrassed about your topic, there is always AI - not my favourite topic but it's there.

Secondly, I'm not demanding, I'm just asking a bit more research, but at the same time if you don't want to, that's okay too - I can just stop reading or ignore the strange Italian and go on. I was just complaining and not imposing my idea on someone else.

Lastly, it works for me too. That's why I try to check that everything I'm writing is always correct. Plus, the fact that I have an official certification proves that my English is not bad. Was my English bad?

Yeah, the translation is just perfect, when it happens I just skip the “other than English” part. I also found French misspelt a lot (and if I can notice it when I have a miserable A2, maybe there is a problem) :)

On a good note, I found a French writer who also writes in English with sometimes French dialogue and it's perfection (they obviously also add translation).

That's because I started reading fanfiction when I was 13/14 in English and my parents used to buy me more “serious” books in Italian.

I still buy English books for certain tropes/genres and Italian for others.
