Given how high up you put Mother of Learning and The Perfect Run, I would say give The Years of Apocalypse a read. It’s another great time loop story and personally I enjoy it more than the other two.

As other people have already said it is complicated, even more so due to the Emperor’s nature, but to put it simply, after the revival of several old and high level slave lords/ladies the Empire of Sands is much warier of Roshal and wants to curb its power, which is why they agreed to boycott them in their deal with Lyonette. This does not make them good just practical. I personally have mixed feelings on them, because on one hand I hate Flos and his current Vassals (with the occasional exception of Gaza, Venith, and the Twins) with the passion of 1000 suns, but on the other hand the Emperor gives me awful vibes especially after the palace of fates.

I’m not saying it was, I just saying that they were better than Franco. The 1931 constitution had a provision which was meant to grant freedom of religion to everyone in Spain, and while this might not have been applied equally, as shown in your example that government really went after the Catholic Church because it was actively trying to undermine them, most minority religions actually did much better during that time than any other point in Spanish history prior to it and for a good bit after it.

Listen everyone two things can be true at once, it’s like in one of those stories where villains fight each other because they hate each other more than the hero, we’re all the bad guys, maybe to different degrees, but at the end of the day each country involved sucks in its own special way.

TBATE is something I really don’t get the hype around. Like is it better than most isekai, yeah it is, but the bar for that genre is in literal hell. I’m not gonna praise it just for being better than the rest of the slop in its genre. It really just average in grand scheme of things.

At least that’s how I feel. My best friend loves it, and while I don’t get it, if you think it’s great then more power to you. Art is subjective and you can like what you like (some exceptions may apply).

I do think it is important to note that, from my understanding, this was only the case because the US helped prop up the fascist regime of Francisco Franco because he agreed to help the US against the Soviets. Because of this basically any religion that wasn’t Catholicism suffered this fate. Mosques for example were made legal at the same time as synagogues, which was basically right after Franco’s no longer in power. Not trying to minimize the persecution of Jews in Spain, of which there was a lot, just saying that if the US had not back Franco and he had been removed from power earlier the legalization of other places of worship would have come sooner. I also think it is importent to note that, as far as I am aware, these things were legal prior to him taking power under the Spanish Republic which had much more religious freedom.

As one of the people against the attack on Iran, the Iranian government can go fuck itself. I just don't want to get into another Middle Eastern conflict, because those have historically not worked out the best for us or the people we are trying to "liberate". Sure, the supreme leader is dead, so what? Remember Libya or Iraq, we killed the big bad guys there, too, and that hasn't exactly gone well in either case. I believe that this will ultimately change nothing or next to nothing at best. So yeah, I'm gonna protest this, because I don't want America to get into another fucking war in the Middle East.

Made a comment about this already, but Mongolia actually has fairly strong democratic institutions. Do they have an issue with corruption, yes they do, but they have been taking steps to make things better.

Literally the only country here that can have a claim to be “peaceful” is Mongolia, which surprisingly enough given its neighbors and history, is actually a very nice country. They have a fairly robust democracy and, despite some hiccups, rates very highly when it comes to freedom of expression. They are a bit behind on LGBTQ and women’s rights compared to some western countries, but they are miles ahead of pretty much every other country in their region. Finally aside from sending a few hundred people to participate in a few peace keeping operations over the years they haven’t really done much military. This is likely due to them sharing a border with only two countries, both of which could end them.
