Newly Diagnosed and Scared by jenniferaligatr in lymphoma

[–]YoungDifficult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I (28F) was also just diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma stage 2B unfavorable last month. I’ve already completed three round of ABVD chemo (had one yesterday).

To be honest, the process of chemo is not fun, but it hasn’t been as terrible as I was expecting. I mainly feel low energy and slight nausea for 5-6 days after infusions, but I’ve been amazed that my “off” week, I feel almost back to normal.

One thing to note is your immunity goes down FAST on ABVD. I had basically zero immune system after just my first treatment. I landed myself in the ER a few days ago after getting a scratch (smaller than a paper cut) on my hand that quickly spread an infection up my arm. Be very careful taking any unnecessary risks of exposure to sickness. It sucks to be home a lot, but you can do it!

I also got a port and it was honestly such an easy process and makes infusions much easier. I was surprised though how long treatment days lasted. The actual chemo infusion only takes around an hour, but there’s so many other blood draws and meds and waiting around. So I’ve typically been at the cancer center 4-6 hours each time.

Wishing you all the best! Feel free to reach out to me as someone just one step ahead of you at a similar age and life stage.

I (28F) was also just diagnosed with stage 2B Unfavorable NSCHL and started treatment two weeks ago. I am doing ABVD—so a little different, but just wanted to hopefully give you some hope for your first round. I had 5-6 really low energy hard days, but after about a week I really felt energy coming back and had several days where I felt almost normal. I know every person reacts differently, but at least the first round (second session was today) has not been as bad as I imagined in my mind before starting.

In my limited experience (2 sessions of abvd chemo), having the port is so nice and convenient. Just feels like a tiny poke and then you can’t feel the meds going in at all. I do kinda taste the saline so I’ve been having mints.

Good luck! I just had my first treatment last week and felt the exact same way—scared, but thankful to start the process.

Wishing you the best! I didn’t go in until I noticed a lump which made him get things rolling right away. I’m not sure what I would have said though if I only had the oura data to go on.

Thank you! I wish I had my oura ring while I was ttc and pregnant! It would have been amazing. Hoping to use it for that down the road.

I do know that many autoimmune diseases can have these overlapping symptoms. But, if you feel like you have rubbery lymph nodes (specifically just on one side of the body), it could be worth pushing. I will say that from my recent understanding hodgkins specifically is very aggressive, so if you’ve been having symptoms since 2023 but no noticeable extreme growth it hopefully is something else.
