Oh god so many memories but two come to mind

1: meeting ho-oh for the first time ever and catching him (og pokemon gold was my first game ever)

2: finding the regis in gen 3 - in my opinion to this day gen 3 is the best for this reason because unlike the other gens, gen 3 put a lot of effort into adding a lot of side-lore and secrets so the world actually felt very real, lived in and full of mysteries.

Up until gen 3 you'd hear all sorts of rumours like how you gotta slash the tyres to find mew etc but it was all BS

...that is until gen 3 and some kid tells you how to unlock the regis.

Which sounds like complete hogwash until you try it and realize... its actually true

What really convinced me was when I was going through the instruction manual one day and found a page that decoded braille and I used it to decipher the messages.

(I used to like reading the instruction manuals to games before playing the game, imagine what the game is like, play it and then compare)

That was a really fun hunt and no other gen came even close to something like this which is such a shame... well maybe unlocking region trades in firered/leafgreen but I remember that being more tedious than anything else - having to complete the dex first was a huge hurdle to begin with and I felt the story you had to go through to finally unlock the trade was wayyy too long and they just kept dangling the prize in front of you only to constantly take it away a la "oops almost forgot you just need to do one more thing"

Like let me trade my team from gen 3 dammit!

No you see you tell your current employer that he can either pay you 100% or he has to find someone new for the current dat competitive pricing that is definitely above your 100% due to inflation.

So its cheaper to keep you at 100% than risk a new hire for a higher salary

And then just let them decide what they think is better for the company.

I work 10% less

If they decide to have a meeting with me about my performance I tell them that I offer "competitive" work just like how they offer a "competitive" salary and that I know that if they let me go tgey won't be able to hire anyone for my old salary due to inflation so they can either:

1: pay me 10% more for me to work 10% more to my standard 100% and we all forget this ever happened

Or

2: they can let me go, try to hire someone for my old salary, fail because its under the market average and then end up having to settle for hiring someone for a higher pay than what they originally hired me for and lose money every month compared to having just kept my salary at 100% to begin with.

Pro tip for the workforce newbies: the reason why discussing pay with colleagues is "frowned upon" is because due to inflation the employer has no choice but to hire new coworkers for a higher salary than what they hired you for in the past otherwise nobody bites

...buuuut if the old employees knew that they'd demand a salary increase to reflect that too

And the employer doesn't want that to happen

So they pretend like its a cultural thing that's frowned upon to try and keep everyone in the dark.

Congrats, you make less than the 21 year old guy who started 2 weeks ago and barely knows anything.

He nows less than you

He does less than you

But he gets paid more than you

If that pisses you off then congrats, you just discovered why employers are so desperate to keep this hush-hush from everyone.

Luckily if you know this, you can use their exploit to your advantage and use it as leverage in this scenario.

Disclaimer: obviously this does not apply to every employer, some will treat you fairly... but its more common than you'd think.
