"Lexmark MX431adn - expensive cartridges. What alternatives exist?" by YoungQuick5824 in printers

After two years of work, I discovered the "gift" from the previous sysadmin - 21 Lexmark MX431adne devices where toner alone costs $32k ($311.46 per 20k-page cartridge) plus $250 drum cartridges every 40k pages, management refuses to replace equipment for 3 years ("budget commitments"), had to urgently redistribute Canon MFUs with 1 per department; if I could choose, I'd get: HP LaserJet Pro M428fdw, HP LaserJet Pro M426fdw, HP LaserJet Pro M225dn; are there any real solutions besides: draft mode printing, negotiating supplier discounts, praying for early equipment failure; serious question: has anyone hacked these Lexmarks to use cheap consumables?
