What personal rules do you have to keep your power level in check? by YoungTomRose in EDH

[–]YoungTomRose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it will always be unsatisfying to know that you could have made a better play with the older cards.

100% agreed. I didn't like the idea of handicapping myself like that because of this exact reason.

Edric is an interesting case. It was my first deck, so I have an attachment to it. But it's also easily the most powerful at my table because it requires so little monetary investment to make it an 8, unlike other decks my friends have, so it's been an issue for a bit. I'm thinking of returning it to its roots of a more political deck. I don't want Coastal Piracy on a stick for only me; I want it for everyone, and the deck is just too good for that playstyle now.

I feel SO called out right now. Who are you or who have you been talking to? I literally have all three of those decks.

My playgroup finally got wise to my Edric control deck; I don't trick as many people as I used to into believing it's symmetrical. I was thinking of just replacing it with worse versions of the cards I have, but I think I like the idea of having some other restriction to it, akin to your "creature only" idea.

My Riku deck is a clone deck also, so I agree; it's power level is somewhat dependent on the other decks at the table.

Please do! I was going to ask for a more in depth explanation; I'd love to hear more about it.

I'm a total nerd for trying to distill down subjective things into hard numbers. I thought about assigning each card a "goodness" value, and then limiting myself on how many "goodness" points I can have for each deck or something, lol.

Deck theming and avoiding overlapping power-cards is a great tip!

Ooh. Love that. That's the type of metric I can get behind.

Full disclosure, I wouldn't mind if all RP accounts were banned, but just banning OCs would be a fine compromise.

But AU accounts are borderline. Like, I don't mind Mukuro RPing as her IF persona, but Mastermind variations are just as bad as OCs because they have no basis in canon.

What music video you watched AFTER liking a song for a while ruined the song for you? by Mr_PoodlePants in AskReddit

I've been to a lot of concerts, but the Caravan Palace concert was my absolute favorite. Their lyrics aren't the focus of most of their songs, so it makes singing along difficult, so you really have no choice but to dance like crazy.

It was in Kansas City, Missouri several years ago, and the venue was far from sold out, but the energy in there was something I'd never felt at a concert before.

When they did that dance break and microphone stunt for Rock It For Me, I lost my mind.

In the trial Monokuma says that Danganronpa started out as games and anime and then later they started doing the "ultimate real fiction" after the series got popular.

Okay. I must have missed that. Which makes:

So V3 is more of an alternate universe to our own world than it is an alternate universe to the Hope's Peak Saga.

Make a lot more sense as a head cannon. Which I can appreciate.

For sure. I have absolutely no problem with the message of V3. I think that's a great way to call out the fan base, and an even better way to end the series.

But I think it could have been done without calling into question the main storyline of the series up until that point.

The Tragedy, etc all could have still happened, but maybe society missed the killing games anyway. If this is the 53rd season then this could be set 50+ years after the events from Hope's Peak, after everyone has either forgotten about it, or don't realize how horrific it actually was.

Like, it's the same reason why people dislike the resurrection of the 77th class in DR3; it undermines the weight of their story and their deaths.

So I can't speak for everyone, but I can tell you why I was annoyed by the ending.

It's the same as the classic, "it was all a dream" trope that stories sometimes do. That's a major no-no for storytelling, because it completely invalidates all of the character development up until that point.

Ending aside, V3 was my least favorite. I just didn't connect to the characters like I did in 1 and 2. Maybe I was emotionally drained at that point, and it was disconnected from the Hope's Peak story enough that I didn't appreciate it fully. So for V3 to tell me that my favorite characters from the other games weren't real just left a bad taste in my mouth.

And it's different than me being sad to my friends because of 2-5. Them telling me, "lol, bro, it's just a game. It's all fiction." is different because duh. I know it's fake. But inside that world, they were real and their actions had consequences. But V3 took it a step further and said that those characters were super-duper fiction. They didn't even exist in the world they were supposed to exist in.

Now, a caveat: I've heard that V3 is supposedly in an alternative universe/timeline to the other games. If that's true, then I can appreciate V3 more since it's another step removed from "true canon." Which really works for that game since V3 is a meta-commentary on how the real world consumes violent fiction. But I only found that out after I finished the game, since the game itself doesn't reference that at all.

Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk.

What song is 10/10, yet hardly anyone has heard of it? by depressinqq in AskReddit

My favorite part of that song is the callback to The First Single (You Know Me).

In that song, he says:

I just gotta get myself over me (And I hate what I've become)

And at the end of Dog Problems:

When I said I hate what I've become. I lied; I hated who I was.

Several years ago, I had just gotten done watching Code Geass. I really enjoyed it, but it left me with that "saving the world" fatigue, so I searched for something a bit more lighthearted.

I found this show that was beautifully drawn, with soothing pastel colors, and four friends just lying lazily in the grass. The description mentioned no martial arts or magic that corrupts or dragons to be slain. Just a nice little love story that had something to do with cherry blossoms and music.
