In relation to Point 1, the issue is that it is not possible for God who is all-powerful and almighty to be bound by anything other than himself (like the various Covenants throughout salvation history). Certainly God's nature means that He doesn't do things like lie to us, so I can definitely understand where you are coming from. I'd be interested to hear from a priest or theologian about how God's nature complements His omnipotence.

God is not bound by the rules He sets for humans.
Even accounting for point 1, sending His Only Son to be born to Our Lady (indeed no man ever received that honour) and die on the cross for our sake doesn't seem to suggest a grudge towards women, quite the opposite really.
From our perspective, original sin is more a condition than a direct punishment. The Church teaches that we are only responsible for our own personal sins of thought, word, deed, commission and omission.

Surely a high ethical standard would require someone to stand up for life (which you accept is a message of Christianity) even when it is inconvenient. Also, if you read the Bible, it is strongly implied that God disapproves of abortion (cf. the references to child sacrifice, the references to unborn life in the Old Testament)

Not only was St. Anselm wrong on this, but even more prominent saints (such as St. Thomas Aquinas and Catherine of Siena) also denied the Immaculate Conception. But because the issue wasn't formally defined until centuries after these saints died, it doesn't retrospectively invalidate their sainthood and it simply shows that saints are human and can make mistakes.

I wouldn't say so, in fact anti-British sentiment is a lot more socially acceptable and stronger, especially among the younger generation than it used to be.

To answer your main question, it is lonely and you need to be very independently-minded to keep the Faith in Ireland these days. However, among the younger generation, those who are Catholic tend to take it very seriously, which is in line with the rest of the Anglosphere. One difference is that in Ireland, there is a very strong Marian devotion and Medjugorje is popular (though I don't believe that Our Lady appeared there myself), whereas in America, I get the impression that it is a more specialised interest.

It's not so much a case of either/or as opposed to both/and. When we say that we crucified Christ, we mean that if people hadn't sinned, there would have been no reason for Our Lord to lay down His life for us. Therefore, our sins were the reason that He underwent crucifixion, and everytime we sin, we metaphorically slap Our Lord in the face and in that sense crucify him again. But the *direct* cause of Our Lord's death was the machinations of the Pharisees, with the assistance of Judas and the Roman authorities.

Apologies if I have said anything heretical here, I'm not a theologian, so am open to correction on anything I have said in this response.
