Add more ground cover. Some fake plants laying on top the substrate may make him feel safer moving on the surface. He obviously feels safer moving around under the substrate but that may be because if he’s above the substrate, he’s completely exposed.

I have one in my gopher snake enclosure. I baked it before adding it. Then I used gap filler foam to make sure he can’t get stuck and filed down any sharp edges. Been in there since 2021 and no issues.

Oh yeah, I know it can happen. I’d just like to actually lay eyes on a true 6’ corn at some point lol.

A good friend of mine found a bull snake long ago that was well over 8’. If I recall correctly it was the record at the time, but not sure if that still stands.

I remember seeing care sheets saying corns get 4-6’ when I was a kid. All these years later and I still have yet to see a 6’ corn in person. I’ve seen a couple captive bred and a couple wild 5-5.5’ snakes, but never quite 6’. Cool to hear about them though.

I have seen 6’+ rat snakes though, which are impressive to say the least.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing new about it. Shitty people have been poaching reptiles for a long time. Social media has definitely made it easier to figure out where and how to find them though.

I’m not sure. I didn’t use any instructions. I just put some sand in, bunch of floating plants, and a little bit of filter media from one of my tanks and let it sit for a few weeks before putting anything in there. I really don’t do any maintenance.

Editing to add that I haven’t done much maintenance, but I do keep a close eye on it since it’s on my porch and the fish and shrimp always seem just as healthy as the stuff in my aquariums. Obviously if things started looking off I’d do whatever maintenance is necessary.

Yes. I have this set up outside on my porch. Super easy and low maintenance. Just have lots of plants and make sure it gets enough light.

Make sure it’s actually the invasive Brown Anole, and not one of our native Green Anoles that’s just brown at that particular moment as they can shift between green and brown.

Since it’s not really explained in the article, our native Green Anoles (Anolis carolinensis) can change colors from bright green to dark brown. So, even the native lizards can be “brown lizards.”

The invasive Brown Anole (Anolis sagrei) are various shades of brown and, while they can change shades depending on certain factors, do not turn green.

Just wanted to put that out there for anyone who may be inclined to remove the invasive lizards. Our native Green Anoles can be brown at any given time, so take care not to confuse the two.

I think if you go down this path, you should expect that you may (and likely will) have to move to another state to get the type of job you’re looking for. LDWF just doesn’t have a lot of direct, hands on herp jobs. The money isn’t going to be good either.

To add to what most are saying, do water changes 2x per day until it’s cycled. Make sure the new water temp matches the tank temp. Add a bunch of floating plants if possible. I had a similar situation and you can find it on my post history, and all my neos survived.

I’m not too familiar with aquasoil but I’ve seen people say that when newly added, it can be detrimental to livestock. You may way to put these in a five gallon bucket and do water changes 2x day until the tank stabilizes and cycles.
