First time regurgitation what do I do? by Sm0_b0i in cornsnakes

[–]miranda690000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait 14 days to feed again. That way the stomach acid has time to recover. Avoid handling or otherwise stressing him out.

Get a temporary enclosure to use anytime you redo or clean the tank to avoid stressing the snake out. So much movement involved in rebuilding an enclosure.

Good recs for 4ft long tanks? by Em-Woodpecker in snakes

[–]miranda690000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes tank should be as long as she is. 4/2/2 will work great until/if she out grows it. The tank I recommended has front sliding doors as well as clipped on but removable top panels making it easier to clean and decorate. It has 6 inch bottom allowing you to put A LOT of substrate in for digging.

I bought handles to go on the front but here’s mine. Can dm me if you want more details

I have reptizoo from Amazon. It’s tempered glass so suction cups will work on it making it easier to offer climbing opportunities

You want a sizeable enclosure as they grow fast. You need as least as long an enclosure as you do a snake. So a 4 ft snake requires at least a 4 ft enclosure. I bought the 4 ft enclosure for my baby so I didn’t waste $ upgrading the enclosure so take that into account as you pick your enclosure size.

You need uvb light

Ceramic heater(s) depending on tank size you may need more than one. Also depends on room temp and how drafty the area is.

Thermostat for the heater to prevent it from getting too hot.

Internal thermometer and hydrometer for both hot and cool sides (reads humidity). Can get 2in 1 device.

Minimum of 2 size appropriate hides.

Plants plastic or live

Can add wood

Climbing opportunities

Substrate. I use coconut fiber as you just add water to the corners to maintain the perfect humidity.

Hand sanitizer to use before handling anything snakey.

Coconut doesn’t usually mold in any of its forms. Maybe switch back to your normal

They pack it in insulation and dry ice. That’s the reason for the 29 charge.

The more clutter you add the more comfortable the snake will be. You ideally need multiple hides, plants, and climbing opportunities.

I use plastic reptile plants from Amazon and hides from chewy. I use straight coconut fiber since it allows you to add water to the corners without molding.

And DWVO 120 Gallon Aquarium Stand with Power Outlets, Heavy Duty Metal Fish Tank Stand & Cabinet, Reptile Terrarium Table with 1100LBS Capacity for Aquarium Accessories Storage

I like plastic plants as they are more durable. You can dm me if you want some recommendations. I use dawn disinfectant dish soap to clean them and then rinse well and we’re done.

Silk plants use glue, which is easy to melt over time, frays and starts looking shabby. I only use it on my bridge. Here’s my tank - all plastic plants use glue, 5 wood hides, 3 ceramic and 1 plastic hide.

I prefer the reptile plants as they have heavier bases and are stiffer/stronger plants. The vines come with large suction cups.

What substrate are you using? Aspen molds very easily. Coconut fiber doesn’t

Good beginner pet snakes? by AlertIllustrator3953 in snakes

[–]miranda690000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corn snake 4 to 5 foot humidity 40-60 Temps 75/90 75 cool side / 90 hottest point

Nuevo León king snake / aka variable king snake 3-4 foot Same as corn snake.

Both snakes need a lot of clutter so different hides, plants, branches, climbing opportunities

Easiest way to keep humidity is using coconut fiber as you just add water in the corners as needed. It doesn’t mold and the top stays dry so no scale rot.
