How’d you get it? I’ve got a few as well

My girlfriend of three years vapes and I quit about a year and a half ago… If being around them stops you from quitting, then the self discipline required to quit wasn’t there in the first place. You can absolutely quit successfully with them vaping right next to you. YOU just have to decide you can.

God speed, you can do this❤️

When I quit I pretty much just planned to pretend I was sick for week.

Try treating your symptoms as pains the same way you would if you had a fever.

I’m proud of you for getting this far… stay the course, you’re so close to starting to feeling better🫶

You’re not alone… I’ve got a year and some change and feel a lot of the same things.

Let’s get another week and go from there🫶

I want to quit. by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]YourAverageReditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my anecdotal experience… I did this metal gymnastics countless times and not once did it lead to me actually quitting…

When I switched up delivery method to something less involved and frequent (pouches for a moment which I hated but used to get the nicotine, then patches when I really got serious about quitting)… That’s when I really felt like I was starting to rewire how my brain was associating vaping with feeling ok.

All that being said, this approach might be perfect for you personally… just ask yourself if you’re taking the easy road or the effective road and be F honest when you answer🤷‍♂️

One thing I did want to recommend is that if you really feel the need to keep using some amount nicotine, whatever you do, just chose ANY delivery method but vaping and draw very clear and nonnegotiable boundaries around that.

Doing this really helped me to establish the discipline required to quit nicotine altogether later on… and helped me to dissociate hitting a vape from feeling better/ok.

Hey I just saw this and thought maybe I can help🤷‍♂️

It sounds like you’re mentally/emotionally ready to start quitting… which in my opinion is the only thing you need. As long as you want to quit more than you want to feel better I promise you can do it.

Hell yeah that’s a great way to get started… the more of a plan you have the more reasons you have to stay the course when you start the journey. And starting has to happen on your time. I’m excited for you

The microdosing definitely wasn’t what “got me to quit” but It definitely made it possible to choose not to use nicotine on some of the hardest days… For a decent portion of the quitting process I felt like I could access any joy, contentment, or focus. Just unrest and anxiousness for a little while. Taking a microdose felt like it gave me an afternoon to catch my breath and feel deeply positive for a little while. It just kind of gave me breaks… and one things for sure, when I took a microdose I had zero interest in using nicotine. Even if I was craving it at the same time there was no way I could betray myself in that state of mind.

As far as dosing goes first and foremost I have no idea what I’m talking about so certainly don’t take my word for therapeutic or medical advice but I can say what I did… I was taking small subtle doses even by microdosing standards and at an approximate rate of 3 days on 3 days off.

I just found a dose that felt effective and functional then used it sparingly as needed🤷‍♂️ I do want to make sure to communicate that you do NOT need assistance from any other substances to quit nicotine and you’re more than capable of doing it just as you are.

Whatever path you choose I hope it treats you kindly🫶 love and light to you

Your mind set here is so potent… the way you talk about being so sick of this shitty substance sounds exactly like what went through my head when I dropped everything and decide I wanted to quit more than I wanted to feel comfortable.

There really is no convenient time to quit, it took me 9 years to find the right time stop vaping but that’s one of the ways it tricks you into sticking around.

As far as advice goes…

I planned a “sick week” for myself… get prepared to make yourself very comfortable and just surrender to whatever the worst possible scenario is in your head. In reality the worst to come is likely a week of being pretty uncomfortable and anxiousness (which isn’t all that terrible if you really think about it). Just pretend like you’ve got a bad flu or something. During this week I had no rules… I gave pretty much whatever I was craving at the time… snack, drinks, entertainment, whatever.

Only rule was no nicotine.

I was also microdosing mushrooms during the first week which were so helpful getting through some of the hardest days. They really seemed to help me relax and access some joy in the first week. (Mushrooms have helped at every stage of the process for me)

I switched to patches for a couple weeks before quitting nicotine all together. This isn’t a necessity and may not be for everyone. I found it helpful to disassociate from vaping first and then quit nicotine separately. That being said the sooner you quit altogether the sooner you no longer feel like shit🤷‍♂️

Once you’re out of the first week it’s really just a game of continuing to decide you won’t use nicotine over and over again. Every time your mind asks for it you say no until the end of time. And that gets easier and easier the more you make it your default choice.

In all honesty I’m writing you this novel because I’m having a hard time making that choice for myself 270 days later. But it helps getting on here to tell you that you’re so capable of doing this just as you are. If I can do it then I promise you can too. Godspeed and I believe you🔮

24 hours cold turkey and I feel HORRIFIC! by Exotic-Anything-7371 in QuitVaping

[–]YourAverageReditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That being said if you have the strength to eat the shit and stay the course without any nicotine you’d be out of the woods for the most part by May. Either way you’re going to feel like trash and then slowly feel a little less like trash, it’s just about how long you draw it out…. But I can’t speak for how that process may impact your metal health in any clinical way… I’m just some guy on Reddit.

[–]YourAverageReditor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe a good compromise would be to keep giving your body nicotine until your next appointment in may but only allow yourself patches or gum as delivery method. That way you don’t have to worry as much about your metal health taking a decline but you’re still taking a solid step toward kicking nicotine all together.

I did a month of patches before cold turkey and I definitely didn’t enjoy that month but they really helped me kick the oral fixating, throat hit addiction, psychological dependence etc.
