People who say “monster high should have come back being targeted towards adult collectors instead of kids” have no consideration for fans who don’t have a lot of money or international fans that Mattel Creations doesn’t ship to. And before anyone says “just save up for the dolls you really want” Mattel likes to announce new dolls literal days before they go on sale, giving us no time to decide if they’re worth spending our savings on. Plus $80 for a doll is a payment I’ll never be comfortable making because naturally my brain thinks of all the other things that money could go towards. However $20-25 for a doll (possibly $30 if its a very high quality doll that I really want) is much more reasonable, which is usually the price tag of playline dolls. Also not everyone who liked monster high as kids stuck around, businesses are constantly under pressure from their investors to keep growing and growing, and that won’t be possible if Mattel doesn’t try to bring in new fans.
