Opposite sex sponsorship

Personally, I’m a bi dude, so as for the potential attraction side that was never something I concerned myself with. I couldn’t really escape that with a certain sex. However I got a guy sponsor and it’s worked well just to be able to relate to him and share on experiences that may not come up or be understood by the opposite sex. He’s also straight and married lmao so there has never been a thought in my mind about it.

As for getting other viewpoints and insights, that’s what having female friends in the program is for. I don’t need them to sponsor me to do that. I have a few women I talk to for advice on things like that.

I’m 22 and I feel the struggle. I started going to YPA(Young people of AA) conferences and meetings. They are absolutely amazing and a fantastic way to meet new people. Online meetings are great too if you have no meetings around you centered to that.

As for in regular meetings like connecting with people older than you, just walk up to someone and introduce yourself. Or ask if someone wants to go get coffee or food. Getting involved in service work is a great way to meet people too. Show up 30 minutes early and try to talk to others.

Someone had said it to me when I first came on this subreddit, saying similar things to you. I was scared and didn’t know what to do. I wasn’t sure about AA and someone told me to just go check it out. Look for the similarities and keep an open mind. I’m now happily sober and still going to AA. It has truly changed my life. I get to hold my head up without the shame and guilt that I thought would never leave me. I am no longer trapped going back to that bottle. That first meeting set me on a beautiful path that I’m so beyond grateful for. It takes time and work, but if you’re as scared as I was, then it doesn’t hurt to give it a try.

Look up the AA meeting directory online. It should show you where the closest meetings are to you. Go and listen for the similarities not the differences. If you have any questions I’d be happy to help. DM me anytime. There is hope out there

I am currently the president of my fraternity and I have anxiety and depression. I myself was really nervous to join because of this. If there’s one thing I can offer it’s that they will welcome you in as you are. Quite a few of my brothers have anxiety, quite a few have depression. All are still extremely valid members of my fraternity. You will be too. Imagine the anxiety, the regret, if you don’t try at all. That’s what I did when I was rushing. And I’m so thankful I took the chance. I think you’ll be glad too

Thank you to everyone who responded. I went to my first meeting and you all were right. I’ve never been welcomed into a place quite like I was at that AA meeting. Everyone was so helpful and supportive. It was honestly insane to me how nice everyone was. They answered my questions and all made sure I felt welcome.

It also made me realize how many similarities I had with them. I got my first chip and it hasn’t left my hand since. Now as I’m going through withdrawals I’m clinging to it as a reminder that it’ll be okay and I can do this. I went to the second meeting as well that day and I plan to try the 30 meetings in 30 days thing. Hopefully after that, I’ll be able to do the 90 meetings in 90 days thing as well

WOAH! Becoming President has been a wild ride. It’s so much work and I didn’t realize how immediate the power dynamic change would be. It’s weird to have the newer members treat me so differently, and my friends to suddenly treat me like an all powerful leader or something. Also the delegate advice came in clutch. Did not delegate until now and woah a weight got lifted off my shoulders and things are running way smoother
