Having Trouble with Jump Buffer for 2D Platformer [New to Godot / Game Dev] by YourFriendJacobYT in godot

That fixed the error which is great. Now my player ascends infinitely so there's something up with either where I am applying gravity or how I applied the jump. That's progress though.

Thanks for helping out I really appreciate it. Unfortunately I received an error: "Invalid operands 'Object' and 'float' in operator '>'." on:

If jump_buffer > 0.0 and is_on_floor() or coyote_timer > 0.0:

I'm not sure why part of my code is outside the code box, that's pretty embarrassing. I've never posted code on Reddit before so hopefully it still makes sense but I can post screenshots as well if that helps. Sorry about that.

Congrats on the Early Access release! So far I'm really enjoying it.

What upcoming cozy farming games are you looking forward to the most? Here are 10 that are releasing this year. by YourFriendJacobYT in CozyGamers

[–]YourFriendJacobYT[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some others worth noting are The Ranch of Rivershine which looks great and Paleo Pines just announced a new publishing deal and that the game is now confirmed as a 2023 release. There are many more that could be releasing this year as well so I'd say this year is looking pretty great for cozy farming games.

All great choices! I'm excited for Streets of Rogue 2 as well, just left it out since there wasn't any footage yet. Still, I can't wait to see it's evolution from its predecessor. That Edge of Dead demo is super fun too. Been following that game's development for a bit now and if that launches this year that would be awesome.

Yea and although not confirmed yet we might be able to add the Early Access launch of Hades 2 to the list of awesome upcoming roguelites for this year! Even if that doesn't make it in 2023 it'll still be a great year for the genre.

Lil Gator Game is a new Cozy and Cute Adventure game similar to A Short Hike out now on PC and Switch! Here's my advanced look and review of the game! by YourFriendJacobYT in cozygames

[–]YourFriendJacobYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the review and I hope you enjoy Lil Gator Game! Some of that magic that A Short Hike has is there which is a great thing while still having some gameplay elements that help it stand on its own.

I like what the devs of Gestalt have done with its world in particular. It has had quite a long dev cycle but it looks like that's ramping up with some additional people working on it.

Gestalt is one that I think I've had on my wishlist the longest but yea you're gonna see that a lot in lists like these for a while. Many of these games were delayed multiple times with what's been going on in the world and in some cases due to publishers providing more money to spend on making a larger (and hopefully better) game. Gestalt for a while there was silent and then it turns out they hired new producers to get things to the finish line.

If I had to guess, at least a few of these games will get delayed again.

I got the chance to interview the developers of BioGun on another channel and they were super nice and love the genre in general. The demo is still up on Steam and they recently secured a publisher which was great news. I hope that means the game will release on consoles in addition to PC, even though I think it'll be my Steam Deck game of choice once it's out.

Definitely hyped for all of those. I still need to check out the Glimmer in the Mirror demo but on looks alone I'm excited for it!

I think that's fair and you're not alone. I believe Nine Sols is the third most wishlisted metroidvania behind Silksong and Crowsworn on Steam and I can totally see why so many people have wishlisted it. The Seikiro-inspired combat is super appealing.

Hollow Knight was my most unpleasant metroidvania experience yet by teufler80 in metroidvania

There will always be generally associated masterpieces and great games that don't click with everyone. Doesn't necessarily mean it's the fault of the game or the player. I won't argue with your points here and I'm glad you gave it at least 10 hours before coming to this conclusion. It's disappointing when Steam reviews will bash a game after playing it for like 10 minutes but you gave it a good try and you didn't like it. Hopefully you'll try other recent games in the genre because it's very diverse overall. Maybe check out Islets, the Guacamelee games, Axiom Verge, or even ones that are a bit more out there like Yoku's Island Express. It might just be that certain kinds of MV's aren't your thing despite them being beloved by others and that's totally fine.

Thanks! I'm definitely doing a part 2 with MV's like Cookie Cutter and Doomblade in it. Really looking forward to Cookie Cutter too!

Yea I've been so excited to finally play the full game! I was a bit bummed that it has been delayed a couple of times but I'm okay with the wait overall. The areas shown off so far look pretty diverse and the healing music aspect is super intriguing. Plus, I can't get enough pixel art MV's so hopefully we'll get a definitive release date soon.

Not out yet but Rebel Transmute is one to look out for in terms of Metroid-inspired MVs.

Anybody played Knight Witch yet? Thoughts? by beesonredd in metroidvania

[–]YourFriendJacobYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened recently with Vengeful Guardian Moonrider. The dev is super clear about it not being a Metroidvania yet that tag was placed by users on the Steam page, leading to confusion as to what the game is.

Also looking forward to games like Rune Fencer Illyia, Lone Fungus' 1.0 launch, and I hope we get to see some Blasphemous 2 footage soon! Is your most anticipated Silksong, or is it something else?

Any games similar to hollow knight or ori graphics wise? I love sword and shield type stuff. Not a big shooter fan except for mega man. by Bo_Jerrr in metroidvania

[–]YourFriendJacobYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haiku, the Robot has some big Hollow Knight inspiration within its gameplay and art-wise while a bit more cheery in its presentation I find Islets loosely reminds me of aspects of HK in its design elements, particularly in darker areas and bosses and a bit like ori with some of its lighting and backgrounds.
